Bugatti Automobiles S.A.S., a subsidiary of the Volkswagen Group, is one of two brands from that company celebrating their 100th anniversaries this year. In order to enhance the celebratory mood Bugatti has revealed a one-off Grand Sport called the Sang Bleu. Other models include the Sang Noir, the Bleu Centenaire and the Fbg par Hermès.

Based on the Grand Sport roofless body type, the Sang Bleu has innovatively used the two-tone theme not by utilising paint but by applying two different bodywork materials.

Carbon fibre and aluminium is the contrasting combination which the company says has embodied its core values of art, form and technique. The colours chosen for the combo were blue - hence the name - for the carbon fibre while the aluminium is polished in its natural state. The large wheels are highlighted in midnight blue and a diamond cut two-tone finish.

Newly-developed Gaucho leather was the one selected for use in the interior to help create an elegant and harmonious appearance. It was chosen particularly for the Sang Bleu's public unveiling at Pebble Beach.

The car's engine is the same quad-turbo W16 with 736kW (1001hp) and 1250Nm of torque found in other Veyron models. Of the 300 planned units, over 250 have been built and 215 delivered to buyers globally. The Grand Sport range itself has seen an uptake of just over 20 examples so far.

A new Bugatti piece of art for Pebble Beach

The « Sang Bleu » to honour the 100th anniversary of the marque

Carmel, California, 14th August 2009. - Continuing this year's 100th anniversary celebrations Bugatti Automobiles S.A.S. has chosen the prestigious Pebble Beach weekend to present a further highlight to pay tribute to this legendary brand : The company proudly unveils the Bugatti « Sang Bleu » - an exclusive, one-off Grand Sport, honouring the marques precious heritage.

Innovation and Harmony

The « Sang Bleu » has ventured into new areas. Instead of applying two paint colours or paint and material to highlight the two tone design the « Sang Bleu » exclusively concentrates on materials - carbon fibre and aluminum - an innovative combination never realised before. This unique approach opens a new dimension of « Art - Forme - Technique », the company's core values.

The colour combination commissioned for the Pebble Beach car is blue carbon fibre with polished aluminum. The visual carbon fibre is tinted in royal blue to emphasize the refined volumes and surfaces of the Bugatti Veyron Grand Sport. The rear airscoops are tinted in the same nightblue - offering a dramatic view from above - and thus fluidly integrate into the overall design philosophy of this unique model.

The rims are inspired by the Grand Sport Roadster and are highlighted in a Midnight Blue and Diamond Cut two tone finish. The interior, specially and tastefully selcted for the Pebble Beach event, is trimmed in a newly developed Gaucho leather which blends with the intriguing and pure exterior materials creating an elegant and harmonious overall appearance.

Featured Marque

In the year of its100th anniversary Bugatti has been selected to be one of the featured marques at the 2009 Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance. Ettore Bugatti started his business in the Alsacian town of Molsheim in 1909. The name of the company: „Ettore Bugatti Automobiles i. Els.". In 1956 the company ceased its activities. Exactly 50 years later, in March 2006, the first Bugatti Veyron built by Bugatti Automobiles S.A.S. was delivered - after the Volkswagen Group had aquired the rights of the Bugatti marque in 1998 and started the re-launch of this famous brand. To date over 250 of the planned Bugatti Veyrons are sold, 215 of them have been delivered to customers worldwide. In June 2009 Bugatti started production of the Bugatti Veyron Grand Sport, the open roadster. The sales results are encouraging over 20 Grand Sports have been sold, with first deliveries already started.

The Bugatti « Sang Bleu » is the latest in a line of centenary Bugatti models which have won worldwide acclaim in 2009. This unique car stands - like the others - for the commitment of the Bugatti of today to carry the values and the philosophy of Ettore Bugatti, the founder of this unique marque, into a successful future.

How many special models of this are there? It is just like the Mustang, there are 1000 limited models. Are they trying to de-value the original Veyron so much it can be affordable for normal people?

did u just compare a ford to a bugatti? you should be banished from this earth. i'd say there's 10 special models (rough estimate) compared to YOUR beloved mustang which has about a 100 special models (again.. rough estimate). i cannot believe ppl these days haha

so many special editions. yeah this is a one-off, probably just to keep them in the press. WCF and every other media is suckered to report their oh-so-special editions every fking season.

they do this for a few reasons actually, one so u dnt end up paying 2 million and then seeing the same exact car next to u wen u go to a car show or under a red light, another one is it so no two cars are alike they all have different colors and stuff, which means in the future like 5 years from now wen they go up on auction blocks they will be worth more.

you are correct, they are just different colors and stuff. but the special editions does not solve the problem you mentioned. if someone insist on copying another owner's car or by chance ordered the same colors, they still can do so for the 'standard' cars. these few special editions accounts for what, 50 out of 300 cars?

maybe you can't order a normal Veyron with a special edition color combination, materials and wheels, but i'm not sure , i'll have to call my Bugatti dealer later in the afternoon.

this is not another edition, the car itself was already introduced, anyway, u can`t deny the beauty of it and i really like the wheels.

Bugatti should just build a unique edition for every customer! LOL! Regardless, it's absolutely stunning.

they are doing it to recoup development and production costs...rumor has it that even at the huge price they charge they are selling each model at a loss...

Not my favourite blue, still the Bugatti blue is the best. Check out the Centennair in paris.

This car is truly gorgeous but the photos displayed here do not do it justice. If you want to see actual photos of the car visit ExoticCarEnthusiast.com then go to news.

but it does. the ultra rich want to feel like they are special, they need special edition anything.

EH?

the car is still butt ugly and adding new rims and changing the colour makes no difference to me if you want an exlusive expensive sports car its always the zonda f or fxx

i thought vw annouced when it launched the veyron they dont make money off them and operate at a loss but will still do so......the many verieties contracticts this and i guess they were telling a lie.....they are marketing this car to death while it has been revealed that supercar prfit margin is gigantic....we have been bluffed

That was when they expected to make only 50, on 50 they would have not recouped their factory and R&D costs, by now all that is paid off and they are making a very nice profit on them.
