1997 world champion Jacques Villeneuve on Friday announced he is no longer married.
The French Canadian, 38, married Johanna in 2006 and had two children with her.
"I've been divorced for a month," he told Sun Media. "We are divorced, not separated. I want to be precise."
Villeneuve said he was happy to hear his native Montreal looks set to return to the F1 calendar next year, and has recently been looking for an opportunity to return to the sport.
"I have to prioritise -- my kids, who love cars like their dad, and finding myself a formula one car for the next season," he confirmed. "I'm putting all of my energy into that.
"It's harder than I thought," said Villeneuve. "But I'm confident that I'll have a car for the return of the grand prix to Montreal."
