"it can run exclusively on electric power at speeds up to 37 mph (60 km/h) for up to 1.6 miles".
I don't get it. Could someone explain to me this statement? How come it's a "full hybrid" if the range in electrical mode is not more than 1.6 miles!?

Fifth Gear TV show in the UK only got 1.7 miles from the latest Prius in town driving. That's the reality. These things can barely travel for more than a few minutes on electric power alone, even when the batteries are fully charged.

Apparently because it can take you 1.6 miles purely on battery power. What is more interesting is that despite coming in a few years after the some other hybrids there hasn't been a switch Li-ion batteries.

A 20% reduction in fuel consumption and an impressive acceleration (5.4secs from 0-100km/h). That's only 0.2sec slower than the outgoing X6 50i. What a nice piece of engineering from the German car maker once again.

How much does it cost to service/repair this thing beyond warranty period? Will that 20% "fuel" saving be enough?

most of the people who own luxury brand cars sell them before they reach 100k miles (in the US) or 100k km... so they don't really care what happens with the service&repairs after the warranty ends...

"they don't really care what happens with the service&repairs after the warranty ends" - used car buyers care, and these used car buyers ultimately decide the residual of these luxury brand cars.

All they have to do now is to bring this drivetrain option to the X5. I would definately get myself one.

i like this car quite a lot; one thing i like about BMW is their ability to create niches
and now it comes as a hybrid it's fuel efficient too

i can't for the life of my understand why the hell bmw wouldnt attach that hyrbid tech to the xdrive35id... seems bizarre and a lot of wasted effort if the result is weight gain and only 20% improvement in efficency etc... this whole exercise proves that x6 owners are wealthy enough to not care petrol and that at the end of the day if your going to buy a pointless suv you you should buy a ssangyong. I like cheese.

Fantastic performance, brilliant piece of engineering. Though am struggling to understand the point of it all considering that it still has a fuel guzzling 4.4 V8 engine that still has a large carbon footprint!

yeah - why does no one want to buy these US SUVs (and they're not making them anymore), while there are people buying this thing (and they're churning them out the factory big time)?
