Kia has officially announced that its new Cee'd will be making its debut at the Frankfurt motor show and that European sales will begin shortly thereafter.

The Kia Cee'd was redesigned under the auspices of the Korean automaker's chief of design, Peter Schreyer. Borrowing a little from Ford's new Fiesta look for the face at the front, with a slight touch of Peugeot with the triangular side windows at the back on the wagon model, the Kia Cee'd is best described as an "evolving" and increasingly European model.

Kia builds solid, reliable cars and some upgrades in technology are also a feature of the new Cee'd. It gets a brand new suspension set-up as well as a stop/start system for an ECO-dynamics variant which will help keep emissions on the decrease. The new Kia Cee'd is also 25 mm longer than its predecessor and promises a thoroughly revised interior design and equipment specs, although the new model is considered a facelift rather than of a next-generation model.

News from under the hood includes an updated 1.6 liter diesel engine with ISG technology (fuel-saving) which will be coupled to a new 6-speed manual gearbox. A hill-holder function for the ESP system and projection headlights are also new to the Cee'd.

The Kia Cee'd goes on sale in the U.K. October 1st.

NEW LOOK cee'd AT FRANKURT

Kia's best-ever selling C-segment car gets a new look at the 2009 Frankfurt Motor Show in September and when the car goes on sale in the UK from October 1 a new ECO-dynamics model will be added to the range.

The cee'd is Kia's top-selling model in Europe and has been thoroughly re-engineered and restyled under the direction of Chief Design Officer, Peter Schreyer, to feature the latest version of the company's signature grille - an evolving expression of the brand's design DNA.

Comprehensively updated, the new Kia cee'd range will deliver a host of customer benefits including numerous exterior and interior design refinements, upgraded standard equipment and technical innovations. The cee'd also gets a fully-revised suspension set-up.

The changes will also significantly reduce fuel consumption and in the new ‘Intelligent Stop and Go' ECO-dynamics version to be launched for the first time in the UK CO2 emissions are reduced to 110 g/km. On average emissions will be cut by five per cent across the cee'd line-up.

Kia Motors UK Limited Marketing Director, Simon Hetherington said: "The new cee'd is 25 mm longer and is more distinctive in appearance with a stronger road presence. Following our established model range line-up, customers will enjoy a thoroughly revised interior including a new-style steering wheel and gear lever, all-red instrument illumination, a new centre console and new audio systems, plus dual-zone climate control air-conditioning."

Technical innovations being introduced with new cee'd will include fuel-stretching ISG technology on the 1.6-litre diesel engines for the first time, a "hill-holder" function for the ESP and brighter projection-style headlamps. The new ‘U2' 1.6-litre diesel engine will be matched to a new six-speed manual transmission.

The ‘new look' Kia cee'd range, which is backed by the company's unique 7-Year Warranty, will make its world premiere at 13.00 hrs (CET) on 15 September at Frankfurt's International Motor Show.

Full UK range details and pricing will be announced prior to the on-sale date.

Wow, the hatch really does resemble the Skoda Fabia, especially with those wheels. I would much prefer a Fabia too...

I actually like it. That is a very sporty front end for a Korean hatchback. Gj Kia.

If that KIA badge was blue then the transformation to Ford would be complete.

I actually quite liked the look of the original Cee'd. If this thing ran me over I'd be hard pushed to tell the police whether it was a Cee'd, a Focus or a Civic.

Kudos to Peter Schreyer for giving Kia a distinct identity. He has kind of given a signature look with that grille design beginning with the cee'd
