Exclusive performance and style

Mercedes has announced a new limited edition C 63 AMG - Edition 63 for the Australian market.

While the exterior looks virtually identical to the standard C 63 AMG, the Edition 63s boast unique 19-inch DTM-style alloy wheels, three exclusive color choices (Platinum Black, Mystic White, and Allanite Grey), and dark tinted privacy glass fitted to estate models.

Inside, the interior receives a number of exclusive design touches including two unique upholstery colors (designo sand or designo classic red), extended black leather appointments with contrast stitching, illuminated door sills, AMG floor mats, and an AMG shifter.

The only performance upgrade is the addition of an AMG locking differential, which optimizes rear grip when accelerating out of turns.

Like all C 63 AMGs, the Edition 63s are powered by a 6.3-liter (6208cc) V8 engine that produces 336kW (451hp) and 600Nm of torque. This enables the sedan to rocket from 0-100 km/h in 4.5 seconds, while the estate takes 4.6 seconds.

Production will be limited to 63 units, and prices start at $169,900 AUD (172,900 AUD for the estate).

The Cult of Personality: C 63 AMG - Edition 63

  • Limited edition with just 63 units to be made
  • Exclusive model built specifically for Australia
  • Orders open today; Arriving December this year

Melbourne - German sports car maker Mercedes-AMG has enhanced its model arsenal with a more focussed version of its compact sledgehammer. Its name: the C 63 AMG - Edition 63.

Having set the benchmark with its Australian debut in March last year at the iconic Bathurst motor racing circuit, the C 63 AMG has gone on to become both a runaway success for Mercedes-Benz and a beacon for the brand in this hotly contested segment. Its cult-like following has been well documented and its ability to attract buyers seeking a genuine driving experience has seen the model break local sales records.

But, as with many good addictions, more was needed.

Enter the Edition 63.

About to be built in strictly limited numbers, this latest masterpiece of handy-work from the cult firm's own PERFORMANCE STUDIO sees the C 63 AMG surface hardened and machined with a sharper edge, featuring a variety of enhancements over and above the standard C 63 AMG.

Starting with the car's powertrain, its performance credentials are already firmly established. It has a 336kW V8-powered punch. From the first bolt to the last, its 6208cc V8 engine has been developed entirely by AMG. It is hand-built and signed by its constructor at its German factory and its impressive 600Nm of torque ensures a 0-100km/h time of 4.5 seconds (sedan model; 4.6 seconds for the estate).

This high-performance engine, which triumphed at this year's International Engine of the Year Awards, blends large displacement and high speed (RPM) in a light-weight package using materials, design and manufacturing techniques from the world of motor racing. In fact, compared to its Bavarian rival, it makes around nine percent more power and, staggeringly, 50 percent more torque.

Transmitting all of this is the standard-fitment seven-speed AMG SPEEDSHIFT 7G-TRONIC gearbox.

Ensuring maximum accelerative traction in the Edition 63 is AMG's locking differential. Providing 40 percent locking effect under load, this mechanical locking unit optimises rear grip when accelerating from each corner's exit.

Race-derived handling is from the model's proven three-link front suspension, specially designed for this AMG range-leader in the award-winning C-Class. Partnered with the marque's multi-link rear suspension system the Edition 63's ride ensures high levels of cornering grip with comfort.

DTM-style 19-inch alloy wheels provide not only sufficient brake cooling but unique styling. Not available on the standard C 63 AMG, these stunning multi-spoke wheels are painted in titanium grey with a high-sheen finish and wear high-performance tyres measuring 235/35 R19 on the front and 255/30 R19 on the rear.

The industrial strength theme continues with the model's exterior.

Three designo paint colours are available, all exclusive to this limited-edition model. Customers after a glassy mirror finish can choose from either designo Platinum Black or designo Mystic White. Those seeking a harder edge to their car's look can opt for the stunning designo magno Allanite Grey finish. This special colour is a matte finish, creating a tougher appearance and a unique-to-its segment paint type for what is certainly one of the world's stealthiest sports cars.

Dark tinted privacy glass is also fitted to the estate version, a factory feature first seen at last year's Classic Adelaide rally.

Inside, the AMG PERFORMANCE STUDIO has made a number of changes to the Edition 63.

Customers can select one of two unique upholstery colours in soft designo leather - designo sand or designo classic red. These tones are complemented by extended black leather appointments on the dashboard, which features a contrasting stitching in the upholstery colour. The door armrests and centre arm rest feature double-stitching.

Illuminated door sills with blue lighting adorn the entry to the front seats. Finishing the interior details are AMG floor mats and the AMG marque's own crest engraved on top of the gearshift lever.

Optional extras are limited. There are none.

The numbers are also limited. Only 63 will be made.

The first of these powerhouses will be delivered to Australian customers this December, just in time for Christmas. They are expected to sell quickly.

What's more, this model's exclusivity is not confined to its build quantity. It will be exclusive to Australia.

The C 63 AMG - Edition 63 has been specifically built for the Australian market and no other. Senior executives from the German go-fast company's headquarters in Affalterbach gave the short-run production project the green light based on several factors, including customer feedback, Australia's AMG sales rate, and the model's sheer popularity down under. No other market has been granted this exclusively specified, tailored and identified model.

The very specific customer feedback gathered during last year's tarmac rally debut of the C 63 AMG sedan and estate played a significant role in the specification of the unique-to-Australia Edition 63. Incidentally, Mercedes-Benz enjoys an unbroken thirteen year involvement with the annual Classic Adelaide rally.

I agree. Those multi-spoke rims are hawt! They need to be standard on every AMG model, and make the stock 5x2 spoke wheels an option.

they look good, but they are a beast to clean. and when you use wheel cleaner, it eats away at your calipers. Fishes, Narco.

thats a bit too much for a few extra colors and stuff... I mean 170,000.00 AUD = 142,716.32 USD you can get a "regular" C 63 at around 60,000 USD (less than half the price) I mean don't get me wrong, I drove the car and its really nice but I don't see how I should pay the price of a {CL 63} for a special edition C 63

sorry but you're comparing apples to oranges. you can't do a direct currency conversion and hope to have a point of reference. in oz our cars have to pay import duty (on the vehicle), then gst (on the vehicle + import duty + cost of transportation, etc), and then if the vehicle cost at that point is over $75k aud we have to pay 33% luxury car tax on every dollar over that (except vehicles which consume less than 7l/100km of fuel). This includes factory fitted extras like wheels, satnav, etc. Then there is the dealer delivery, registration, and stamp duty to pay on the vehicle. Which varies depending on which state you live in. That's not to mention the cost of transportation is nearly 3x the cost of transportation from eu to na. Or the lower demand resulting in higher pricing generally in the premium sector. Sounds like a raw deal, and it does make cars pricier, but it could be worse. However, the list price for a standard C63 sedan (sans dealer deliver, registration, stamp duty) is aprox $150k aud right now. That's a better point of reference for you. Although a $20k aud disparity may sound a lot bigger than it really is.

What you should compare it with is the price of a M3 in Australia. a standard M3 with a Auto-Clutch with out any option is $170,201 AUD. and this Price also exclude any State government tax. Comparing with C63... i think i will go for the C63...

I think that this car is great but I have to agree with muhaidib that its a little steep for what at the end of the day is still based on an entry level Mercedes. $70,000 would be more appropriate.

Yeh they jack the prices way to far. Take Bmw for example. If you want the M badge you only pay 20k difference and its worth it. You want the AMG badge and your paying the price of 2 none AMG models. Stupidly overpriced.

The prices in Australia are about double the United Sates prices due to all the Governement's stupid car taxes.

I would say this is an initiative by MB AU rather than "AUSTRALIA IS THE RIGHT COUNTRY TO INTRODUCE THIS SPECIAL LIMITED ED C CLASS TO AND NO OTHERS"

Apparently Australia is one of AMG's biggest markets. I can believe that as I see many AMGs on the road here.

They boost the price, add the tinsel of 'high performance', add a locking diff. and call it the "Edition 63"?! Wow. Whatever happened to real special edition Mercs like the AMG Hammer, the 16 valve Evo IIs, and the E60 AMGs. It seems like nowadays, outside of the Blacks, their idea of "special edition" is more focused on interior appointments and paint colors than actual upgrades that truly set the car apart and make them, I don't know, "special" compared to the rest of the line. This is a great car, but give me a break with all these "special editions," it's all BS.
