BMW Z Vision Concept spotted en route to Frankfurt

Gotcha! The BMW Z Vision Concept was caught on camera being carefully placed on its transport en route to the 2009 Frankfurt Motor Show. These are the first pictures of the Z Vision Concept which has been rumoured for months now. At a media announcement a week ago BMW called it the EfficientDynamics Vision. Initial stories talked of a two-seat sports car with a difference; it would use not fossil fuels but electric power for its drive systems.

What seems to be a well-covered concept turns out to give some interesting clues as to the styling direction taken. The front grille for example, shows a strong resemblance to that of the 2007 CS Concept car. The side skirts look quite innovative while the chin appears to be a little radical, even for BMW. Side mirrors are nowhere to be seen. Overall the Z Vision seems to have combined attributes from the 3 Series Coupe and the CS Concept.

BMW says the production version of this sports car will serve as a shining industry example that eco-sustainability, great handling and good design don't have to be words that never meet.

Don´t you think it could be the new 2011 BMW 6-Series??? It is quite long, but it doesn´t look like a radical M-1 to me: Look at it. I think it isn´t so wide in the rear part as the M-1, the lines of the car are more fluid (like the 6- series) than faceted (like the M-1), and even, although they could have been changed them not to give clues, look at the style of the wheels... I bet the side mirrors are cameras on the side lol! but seriously. I think BMW has something going here. if this could actually turn out to be a very appealing and proper electric car then i would give it the credit it deserves. lets see what unfolds in the future for this car.

I am not sure how anyone sees a good looking car here. i don't. The sills look rubbish and the front looks an utter mess. The silhouette is sexy, but the detailing is very likely to ruin this car.

The profile seems very attractive, subject to if they can ditch their new ugly, flat, huge nostrils as per the 7, X1, and 5GT. Looking forward to see its face!

The car is to long, especially its wheelbase. I would prefer a real sports car to compete to the 911. Please not again a crossover! Keep it simple and straightforward !!!

No no no! Evo X grill is meant to stay on the Evo. On a BMW it would just look crap.

Just like the Alfa 156 rear lights should have stayed on the Alfa and not a Mitsubishi. BTW, I'm not worried about that, production BMWs have the split (Kidney) grill anyways.

i really hope that this is how the next 3-series will look because this is a simply stunning car: exactly the direction BMW should be going in If they do put this concept into production, they will be a class above MB, Audi, etc.

Good post, 100% agree. Styling and design, much like engineering has to move forward. It generates interest and demonstrates leadership in the field. Fishes, Narco.
