It's the Skoda Superb Kombi. The wagon for the non-badge conscious.

Here is a series of spy shots that show the upcoming Superb wagon with no noticeable camouflage. Maybe Skoda need all the publicity they can get for their new models. Hey, it's a VW in all but badge and you get a decent discount on it. The real question is why more people aren't buying them.

What will the Superb Kombi offer?

A series of 1.4 liter power plant variants (VW Group's 1.4 liter TSI), starting at 125 hp and inching on up to the 170 hp neighborhood, as well a 3.6 liter V6 with 260 hp. That's on the petrol/gasoline side. In the diesel range will be TDI variants delivering between 105 and 170 hp with plenty of torque too.

Gearbox offerings will depend on the engine, with the Superb wagon coming with either a 5 or 6-speed transmission with DSG as an option. Skoda will also be providing the Superb Kombi with an all-wheel drive system (optional) care of Swedish supplier Haldex.

Imagine a Superb wagon with a 3.6 liter, 260 hp V6, DSG gearbox and all-wheel drive. That's starting to look pretty luxurious. Certainly it's and good value for money. And you do know there's a recession on?

I hope the rear design will be a bit better resolved than on the sedan, I drove after one today, and it looked really ugly.

"The real question is why more people aren't buying them." I don´t know which country you´re talking about but in Germany Skoda was on 8th place in 2008 of new registered cars, in front of Toyota, Peugeot, Fiat, Citroen, Mazda, etc. In the 2nd quarter of 2009 the Fabia is 6th and the Octavia 18th. I don´t think you can say that they are sold too bad.

Cars are being sold, but this year (2009), its the Fabia which is going like hot cakes. Heck, Skoda had to reopen a closed segment of a factory and shift its production to cope with the demand in germany and more to the west...but the octavia is up against a lot of competition, and superb just doesnt make that much sense in these times...

You WCF folks are usually pretty good, but this piece... not superbly written at all.

I see Skoda has redesigned the headlights for the 2010 MY... they are now rounder, softer and more similar to those in the Octavia... though I still like the old (actually current) ones better.

More like a Passat Wagon, the Superb is bigger than the Jetta.

I hope that the design doesnt resemble the Octavi Kombi too much

Polliz - the headlights are normal Superb numbers but with tape to resemble the Octavia as it's a prototype.

Coopergt - you mean Passat right? Jetta is Octavia remember...

I love this, it looks fantastic! A suitable improvement over the Superb saloon, let alone my Octavia RS. Great car!

I like the Kombi, poor man's Passat/Avant. A bit pointless though...

Oh thank God they obviously won't bring those ugly rear lights seen on the sedan. Under the camouflage it looks like they somehow resemble the backlights of the current Mercedes C Class. That would be a good deal from my point of view.

Well, Im living now in Czech republic and I can say that it's like... in 10 cars, 5 are Skoda! There is one or two skodas every corner! It's impressive! You see all models since 30 years ago or more till now! I dont know if it is some patriotic feeling or if its just cheaper in here... Anyway, this superb looks realy nice on road. Elegant and classic, charming!

I can hardly see the differents between it and a octavia combi. Also this 3.6 v6 fsi only has 260 hp, why not atleast the 300 like in the passat r36? I think without too many changes it could make about the 333 hp from the s4's 3.0T
