Saab's redesigned 2010 9-5 sedan has been unmasked thanks to several leaked press photos.

Set to be officially unveiled at the Frankfurt Motor Show, the new 9-5 features distinctive styling with a bold front end and a sleek profile. Overall, the design is pretty much what we expected but there are several interesting touches such as blackened A-pillars and dark trim across the top of the side windows. At the rear, the sloping C-pillars help to give the 9-5 a dramatic appearance which is further assisted by clear LED taillights.

Inside, the cabin boasts traditional Saab design cues such as a "7" dashboard, complex air vents, and a center console-mounted ignition. Other styling touches include glossy black trim, aggressively bolstered seats, and a thick-rimmed steering wheel. On the options list, we can expect a rear seat entertainment system, bi-xenon headlights, a Harman Kardon audio system, keyless entry, and a large 8-inch navigation system from Panasonic.

Based on a sportier version of GM's Epsilon II platform, the new 9-5 rides on a 2.84 meter (111.8") wheelbase which should offer plenty of room in the passenger compartment. The increase in room also extends to the truck, where cargo capacity measures a healthy 513 liters (18.11 cubic feet).

Engine options will include a three turbocharged petrol units: a 1.6-liter four-cylinder with 160hp, a 2.0-liter four-cylinder with 210hp, and a 2.8-liter V6 with 300hp. Diesel power will be provided by two 2.0-liter units which will produce 160 hp and 190 hp. Eventually a petrol-electric hybrid is expected, as is a biofuel model.

Look for the new Saab 9-5 sedan to go on sale in Europe in April 2010, with a base price around €35,000.

Ok, so it is not THAT bad, but there are a whole lot of Saloons that are on sale which are better than this.

As expected...saab isn't meant to be flashy...don't like the opel steering wheel, though.

More like a GMC steering wheel, the car looks pretty good anyway.

God I can't wait till the first Saab developed under Koenigsegg ownership. This is just OK.. like an insignia is just OK.

The smaller Saab 9-3 is supposed to be the new Saab 900, but for some reason this big 9-5 actually looks more like the old 900 4-door sedan.

Wow... way to go, Saab. Maybe a little too late... but pretty hot anyway.

There are some very interesting elements to this car: the headlamps, tail lamp treatment, grille, curve of the trailing end of the greenhouse, and blacked-out trim on the A-pillars. It appears to be a Saab - which is a good thing. It looks upscale, but not top-end. I am interested enough to want to see how it drives. I am greatly encouraged to see three pedals in these "leaked" photos. LONG LIVE MANUAL TRANSMISSIONS!

Now that's what a SAAB should look like !!

Exterior : The design is very very cool, the actual 9-5 with all that chrome in the front looks like a Christmas tree but this one, looks more natural.

Inside : Koenigsegg .. get rid of that dash with the A/C vents right in front of the driver (for the headache some clients will delete it from the list), the three circles should (MUST) have some chrome ring or something luminescent like the new Astra or the Mazda 6 top spec, or both.

The Opel wheel : come oooon, in a country where the people is exhaling design, is this what you can bring .. an "used" Opel steering wheel?

With some interior touches, i see a bright future for this car - an some other thing, the price is too big for SAAB in this moment.

Use some paralel price policy with the Skoda Superb (i might say that for interior space they might compete) and the succes will be guaranteed !!!

Looks ok, Very Sabbish, which is good. Not a fan of this colour on this car though... I was oping they would put a grill on it like the one on the Pre-facelift current Saab or 9-3, but other than that, I like it. but Id really like a different grill

A few thoughts... (1) I'll have to see the exterior in person before I can judge. It's not bad but I'm not absolutely certain on it yet. (2) Interior looks like a propper SAAB. (3) Why do the instruments look SO cheap? (4) I wonder what the driving dynamics will be like? I tend to shy away from nose-heavy cars and FWD so I wonder about this. AWD can make things better, but rarely has the feeling of a traditional RWD setup.

Hard to believe a company can fail so miserably. I could go on and on about the schizophrenic design and mutilated engineering but why waste the breath on crap like this. I had higher expectations after our long wait.

i like that , interior with the ribbed section running between the vents over the instruments is very 70's , beats owning a dull boring german barge.

i've returned to this thread and i must say after careful thought and consideration my conclusion is that saab has done a nice job here. the styling is true to saab however there are a lot of nice touches. if you like saab i think you will like this

interior looks like a cheap korean rip off of an audi a5... this car is clearly styled to sell well in america... ugly!

Side profile just isn't right. Headlaps are as ugly as in last facelift. Get rid of those frames. What's going on with the speedo :) this may be even too much plane like. What can you except from driving dynamics when the design is already front heavy.. Front seats look as good as they should! Imo, rear design is nice.

Obviously the designer of the front end and the designer of the rear end missed the design meetings, the two ends don't match at all. A lot of people are saying its good that it sticks to Saab design principles, but given the financial sh*tstorm they are in and their poor declining sales over the last decade, I thought Saab management would have got the point that this sort of 'unique' design isn't appealing enough to enough people for them to be profitable. Sadly, this car hasn't changed the situation.

It's good to see that Saab have remained true to their design philosophy with their unique exterior and interior styling. Nice to see a different offering to the usual German makes.

I love Saab and i believe its a company with great potential, but am not impressed by this. A new model is supposed to be a breakthrough with hints of future design and packed with the latest technology, but still true to its tradition, however this looks like a mere facelift of the current 9-5

Because of the downturn in economy saab used some old 900-parts for the air vents and speedos. hmm..savings +, effin terrible

OK! But why they have to call it "Saab"!? Brambandalero SX9000-FURR, is much better.

It looks like they put together a Skoda Fabia and a Skoda superb... hmm don't like. :-(

This car will be produced in Germany in the Opel plant in Rüsselsheim. And you see this in many details: steering wheel, climate control etc. This is just a blown up Insignia. I think it is to big for the european market (more than 5.0m length) and please, please no front wheel drive in this price segment!

Right! Honda/Acura figured this out and put AWD in the Legend...heck even Hyundai produced the Genesis sedan with RWD!

looks like a saab does normally. which means it will be bought by university professors who refuse to give up their rover p6's or vw karmann's, for their wives and will be owned by the same wife for 30+ years.

not in any way an interesting vehicle just like every other ? and ?II cars. i would like to say "come on saab do something cool like you did back in....." but i can't. saab's are boring and always have been.

Looks like a Saab...but for some reason a Saab just doesn't feel right as a sedan. A Saab needs to be a hatch back...like a Volvo needs to be a wagon to feel like a Volvo. (Just my opinion)

Phew! The Saab 9-5.

The only car that forced people to grow "grey hair" waiting for the new model launch.

I've waited this long, so I'll wait a bit longer to make my comments at the official launch.

Now where is that '04 "vintage wine" I kept in the cellar?

Smooth and sleek- great rear, OK front... but the interior has gone a bit too Audi. Generallly quite nice though- but i'd rather have an XF or a CLS

Saab? Where? Is this a joke? We've waited so long for this, and this looks like is a fugly heap of Opel junk that was designed 20 years ago. Unbelieveable. It’s still got the tacky chrome headlamp rings, and the new stuck-on black bits and hideously plasticky dashboard and headrests look like somebody ran out of ideas before they started. There's nothing Saab about this as far as I can see, and as for contemporary design, it looks like they took some drawings from the 1970s, added a few tacky bits of garnish in the hope nobody would notice and then decided it was finished. It’s not even retro. It’s just complete and utter garbage. Look, I had a 2005 Aero Turbo wagon, and if it had been more reliable than it was I’d have said it was the best car I’d ever owned. It let me down so much that Saab bought it back. But when it worked, it was smoother, quicker and more comfortable than anything else I’ve ever driven in the class, and I reckon it looked the business too. But this new offering? Well, I had a toy dashboard and steering wheel when I was a kid that lit up and made noises when you turned the key - it looked exactly like the dashboard in this new 9-5. Really, Saab enthusiasts have all been hoping that once Saab managed to shake off GM they’d get back to making real Saabs again, and learn from their own history that if they want to take a larger market share they’ve really got to do something about quality control to address the hideously poor reliability ratings reported by so many motoring surveys or real customer experiences. But this is an Opel (Vauxhall) from the engine through the chassis to the majority of the ancillaries, hence quality & reliability doesn’t stand a chance. Unfortunately, Saab as we knew it has gone. And from what I see here, it ain’t ever coming back. That’s sad.
