2010 Audi A8 teaser

The first teaser image promoting the Audi A8 has recently been found.  Standing with the cloth-covered A8 is Audi's Board Member for Technical Development, Michael Dick.

Few things are clearly visible in the picture other than Dick.  We can see the now-signature Audi LED daytime lights through the sheet, but we also notice a car that could be a little shorther than the current generation.  The rear windshield of the car also looks to have a bit of a sharp angle, something that contradicts the official sketch of the car released by Audi last October.

According to Autovisie, the photo was buried in a collection of promotional materials released by the automaker as part of a 100th anniversary celebration.

The Audi A8 is expected to hit the market in 2010 with four engine options, including petrol and diesel versions of a 3.0-liter and 4.2-liter V8.  Should a S8 model be released, it could receive a 5.0-liter V10 FSI that unleashes 620 horsepower.

Built with a next generation Aluminum Space Frame, the 2010 Audi A8 was supposed to be shown off in Frankfurt this September but recent reports state this has been postponed despite the "surfacing" of this teaser image.

it will be a great car, better than the 7 but no S-Class. Hell, even the current gen. beat the new 7 in MT's comparo.

well duh, it'll be an a4 blown up 30% for the most part. minor details will differ from the rest of the range but it's fairly easy to imagine what it will look like.

Like sideskraper said, it's going to be a blown up a4, audi's design is just so predictable, and frankly, boring...

it is predictable and to a degree boring. but i think that's the nature of being one of the big 3 luxury euro manufacturers. frankly i find their styling to be much more interesting and exciting than bmw or mercedes.

True, to an extent. I applaud all three manufacturers for their consistencies throughout the years. Compared to Ford, Chevy, and Chrysler and their inconsistencies in design, trendfollowing, and style- I will take boring any day of the week.

Looks menacing now... hope it doesn't end up looking nice but predictable like any other Audi.

Audi at least has found its fundamental design basis and direction, all the others(incl. Benz und BMW) are still desperately searching for one.

McNamara68
July 22, 2009 5:11 AM
that's a great point. benz and bmw used to have that during the early 90s, now some of their designs seem jumbled. i've always admired how audi's maintained a common dna in all of their models--and none of them, in my opinion, can be classified as "ugly." that might be a product of not taking too many risks ala their competitors. but simplicity and understatedness in design is refreshing, especially these days.

looks like it has got the the new hexagon grill

That picture is excellent in the link you have provided. If you look very, very closely at the teaser image you can see the edges of the grille that resemble the sketch and the LED strips on the teaser exactly follow the sketch as well. I hope that the grille keeps those striking chrome spikes at the edges like in the drawing.

Fantastic work with finding that sketch, I believe you may have uncovered the design path the D4 will follow. Remember they said the D4 A8 will mark a new design direction for future Audi's. I think that sketch shows it with the differently shaped grille, headlights and interior grille design.

It looks fantastic, I can't wait to see the car now that I have seen that sketch which corresponds to the teaser image.

They are hiding a grill, never seen before.

I don´t think that we will see the hexagon grill. This pic here is very close to the final design and it looks really boring. Hopefully the interior and the new MMI will set some new standards...

agree that ur pic looks boring cause it is simply a photoshopped current A8

dbehmoaras
July 22, 2009 1:09 AM
That is photoshopped. And you have to be able to tell the difference between a conservative design and a boring one. The R8 is a good example. Compared to other cars like it, specifically the Gallardo (obviously), the R8 has a much more conservative, tame design. But it looks brilliant. The A8 is the same way: simple and beautiful.

I hate Teaser images! Usually means the car is CRAP!

July 21, 2009 7:45 PM
This is going to be a real beauty, but I doubt it will be better than the new 7 series, when I saw that car in person, it changed my opinion 100%, now I think it's great!!

7 series is really great, so we can't say now if the A8 is better or worse, but one thing is for sure .. the next A8 will be breathtaking, look at those LEDs and the line it has. Well done Audi !!

PS . Speaking of BMW's 7, right now they sell the car and gain some new clients, instead .. the "old" A8 is selling the same package.

This will be one of the most amazing cars the world has ever seen, especially if WCF is right in saying that this will eventually get a 620hp engine for the S8.

McNamara68
July 22, 2009 5:11 AM
that would be nuts, that's S65 territory but with the 4WD to handle it

M!
July 22, 2009 1:47 AM
looking at the LED daytime running light and the hood, it appears the front low beam and perhaps high beam will also be LED as in the V10 R8.

as for hexagonal, i doubt it (unless they are changing it) the VW design language if there is such a thing, is Triangular for Lamborghini, and Square for Audi.

omfg! A new Audi! Oh wait... Just looks like the previous one. What a surprise.

Suggestion: why we don't rename "Audi" to "Copi"?

sigh, i got the feeling this will look just like the A4/A5/A6 but... bigger.

I hope the S8 retains the NA engine. Forced-induction would spoil that engine note.

they already announced their gonna stop making S8s

anyway am sure no matter what it well be the better looking between its rivals as Audi always is

Because of what? Oh look an A4... err no A6... wait... A5? No, it's an A8! It's kinda funny actually. Everyone laughs about every Audi looking the same again, and they just continue to do so...

July 25, 2009 12:27 PM
At least its not like BMW, where you differentiate the models in varying degrees of uglyness. Audi keeps getting World Design Car of the Year as well, so they are obviously doing something right!

Another Audi masterpiece, seriously BMW has nothing on it, every BMW is nearly the same look that be 5,3,x, and so on series, its ridiculous inside and out. Audi has famous four ring and grille statement but at least you can tell what is what when seen on the road, better quality style performance looks inside out than BMW its just stupid comparing the two. Mercedes is the only competition to Audi and it is a hard choice to make when it comes between the two productions, i personally would take Audi.

The headlights looks like the ''sportback concept's'' - A7?
