A new Acura model will go on sale in the North American region this coming winter. The 2010 ZDX is a four-door coupe which has an elevated position and can sit up to five adults. It also comes with extra utility capabilities such as expandable storage facilities and additional hidden storage compartments.

Based on the prototype ZDX which was shown at the 2009 New York Auto Show, the production version has that sloping rear end, bold fender flares, a panoramic glass roof and hidden rear door handles. Standard wheels are 19-inch 7-spoke alloys which happen to be the largest standard rims in the Acura range.

Power will be sourced from the 3.7-litre naturally aspirated V6 engine that generates 221kW (300hp) and maximum torque of 366Nm (270 lb-ft). Selecting the gears is a 6-speed automatic that comes with steering wheel-mounted paddles for quick changes. Acura's Super Handling All-Wheel-Drive (SH-AWD) system is standard with all ZDX models.

In the range are three levels of trim; a ZDX, a ZDX with Technology Package and the ultra premium ZDX with Advance Package. They all offer a hand-stitched leather dash, Bluetooth connectivity, a USB audio interface, an iPod connection and a CD player. Upwards of the range features that reflect a higher level of trim and price like satellite navigation, a new multi-view rear camera and adaptive cruise control are factored in.

Acura will announce all details pertaining to cost closer to when the car is launched. However, it will be priced and positioned between the MDX luxury SUV and the RL luxury sedan.

All-New 2010 Acura ZDX Four-Door Sports Coupe Will Feature Dramatic Styling, Outstanding Performance and Advanced Technology

All-new Acura model on-sale this winter

The all-new provocative 2010 ZDX four-door sports coupe will arrive at Acura dealerships with dramatic styling, outstanding performance and the latest in advanced technology. The segment bending ZDX features stunning coupe-like styling with the added benefit of a commanding presence and flexible utility. Staying true to the prototype model that debuted at the 2009 New York Auto Show in April, the production ZDX will feature the key design highlights of a panoramic glass roof, hidden rear door handles and bold fender flares.

Along with head-turning styling, the ZDX will boast outstanding performance from its 3.7-liter V-6 engine mated to an all-new 6-speed automatic transmission. The 3.7-liter SOHC V-6 all-aluminum engine will generate 300 horsepower and 270 lb-ft of torque for immediate acceleration response, outstanding low- and mid-range torque and superior high-rpm power. The 6-speed automatic transmission with steering wheel mounted paddle shifters gives the ZDX excellent acceleration while also enhancing fuel economy. Standard on the ZDX is Acura's exclusive Super Handling All-Wheel DriveTM (SH-AWD®) system. The SH-AWD® system expands the ZDX's appeal by providing outstanding handling as well as superior all-season capability. Standard on the ZDX are 19-inch, 7-spoke alloy wheels; the largest standard wheel in the Acura lineup.

Inside, the ZDX exhibits the highest levels of refinement and sophistication. Every ZDX interior will feature a hand-stitched leather dash, panels and sculpted center console. The rich leather appointments give the ZDX a warm and inviting feeling while creating an intimate cockpit for the driver and passenger.

The ZDX's flexible utility enables customers to have great utility coupled with sleek styling. The ZDX can seat up to five adults while maintaining a generous amount of cargo space behind the second row of seats. The cargo area can also be expanded to accommodate longer objects, such as golf bags, by removing side panels in the cargo-compartment sidewalls. As an added bonus, there is an integrated under-floor storage area.

When the ZDX goes on sale this winter, customers will have the choice of three distinct trim levels: ZDX, ZDX with Technology Package and the ultra premium, ZDX with Advance Package. Like all Acura models, the ZDX will come generously equipped from the start. The panoramic glass roof with moveable sunshades, hand-stitched leather interior, HandsFreeLinkTM Bluetooth® connectivity, power tailgate, and a high powered audio system with CD player, AM/FM/XM radio and USB audio interface with iPod® integration are all standard features.

The ZDX with Technology Package adds several features including a Navigation System with Voice RecognitionTM, an Acura/ELS Surround® premium audio system and a new multi-view rear camera. The Advance Package boasts additional customer enhancing technologies like a blind spot information system, a Collision Mitigating Braking SystemTM (CMBSTM), and Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC).

When the ZDX goes on-sale, it will bring a new level of prestige to the Acura lineup. The ZDX will be priced and positioned between the MDX luxury SUV and the RL luxury sedan. Pricing and additional details will be released at a later date.

I think it is pretty adventuresome of Honda to build a car like this for an unestablished niche market. Yet curiously, they have cold feet over the NSX. It's hard to imagine this being a volume seller with less utility and marginally improved performance over an SUV.

It looks more like a 2010 Aztek...

i love that acura is making cars looking like from the future as they should i think its a great design philosophy and language that more people should start looking for they started with the tl and now with this i think its a great way to explore how cars should look nowadays.

I like it as well. Acura's current line up get's a lot of undeserved criticism in my opinion. I'll admit, I didn't care for the new TL at first, but after giving it some time, and having seen one up close many times in person, I think it's a very beautiful car; definitely ahead of it's time. The TSX, another beautifully designed Acura, I've fallen in love with. In fact, I'm looking to trade in my commuter car, an 06' Acura RSX-s for one. I appreciate how Acura/Honda doesn't feel the need to go back and borrow ideas from the past (retro) -- suggesting that the past 40/50 years of automotive design/evolution have all been a mistake.

I think that Acura is, at this time, designing cars that are ahead of their time. In two years or so, the styling of the TL and ZDX will be sooo appreciated, that other automobile manufacturers will be using these designs as their influence. That's what I think. I really like this ZDX and I believe it will sell really well. And I have grown to love the TL. Nice job, Acura (Honda)!!!

The whole 'production cars that look like concept cars' thing is really cool and all... but Acura has got to make itself a global brand first, so that it has enough cachet and funds to develop luxury cars to battle in tier 1 status.

Are African-designed domestic vehicles better than this, in your opinion?

OMG! An attempt to copy the X6 has gone horribly wrong. And I thought the 5S-GT and Panamera were ugly.

The entire "kinda-sporty-coupe-crossover-but-only-with-grandpa's-V6-and-automatic" concept is ENTIRELY LOST on me. What gives? This surely inefficient, hideously ugly frumpmobile is no better than BMW's 5-series GT monstrosity. At least I can rest easy knowing I'll never be caught driving in one. Yuck.

The only part of this car i actually like is the rear, but other than that I have to say I still prefer BMW x6. Still can not believe wasted resources and time on this instead of the new NSX

as if the X6 is an original design... It's funny how short-sighted people are. Most still believe only Eastern brands copy from Western. For me X6 is a copy of the Ssang Yong Actyon. Not as bad, but still stupid concept.

i think you need your eyes checked if you think the the X6 is a copy of Ssang Yong Actyon. lol thanks for the laugh.

The preformed ideas in the average car forum are unbelievable. To be honest, I'm sure BMW wasn't looking at the Actyon and said: 'let's do one ourselves'. My point is just, if the Actyon would have come after the X6, as this Honda is, everybody would be screaming COPY! It's ridiculous.

This looks far better than a X6!!!

Does it get 30 miles to the gallon? As a Honda fan I hate the new bird beak...I mean..."power plenum" grill from which all design queues on the new Acura line up seem to flow from. The only car they got right is the TSX. It wears the beak well. The ZDX does fill a slot in the Acura line up but with the absence of a coupe (and the NSX) I think Honda is creating more space between themselves and enthusiast and bridging the gap toward "family oriented" buyers. Is that a bad thing? Time will tell.

A copy of what exactly? A BMW X6? I think not. Whoever believes that sort of nonsense is not only misguided, but completely false in their thinking. The niche concept, I grant you, but this car looks nothing like the X6. And for that, all the better. Beautiful work, Honda.

Would be ideal (albeit alittle small) for soccer moms if it had 4 real doors. Does anyone else see this as a raised Toyota Prius in profile?
