The year 2012 will see Mercedes-Benz launching an all-new SLK-Class two-seater coupe convertible. These latest spy pictures show the car testing at the Nürburgring. It has been almost three months since it was seen stationary on the same track. Then there was a possible engine problem since smoke could be seen coming out from under the bonnet. Nothing of that sort is coming out this time around though.
In this market segment the SLK is now being joined by the BMW Z4 as the only two competitors to offer a hard roof. We expect the next SLK, the first in its class to have such a roof, to stick with that formula.
Power will come from normally aspirated petrol V6 motors as well as small turbo units. A diesel unit is possible for the first time given climate demands and advances in the technology. How about a hybrid? We could also see the rumoured 3.5-litre V6 twin turbo with 470hp (350kW) making its way into an AMG version.
