Audi A5 Sportback leaked photo

The Audi A5 Sportback has pretty much been uncovered in various guises; in teasers, spy shots and videos. So these leaked images which are supposedly of the real thing add very little to the overall A5 Sportback experience. Nevertheless it is always good be able to put them out there for commentary before they are officially released.

Details about the car are also abundant having been published a number of times on WCF and the interweb. In case you missed them here is a bit of a breakdown. The A5 Sportback shares its DNA with the A5 Coupe but as you can see, it is larger with two more doors and a longer wheelbase. Being a hatchback/wagon it features a luggage compartment of 480 litres with the seats up and 980 litres with the seats folded down. Yet it is sportier than the A4, with a lower suspension system and a rear diffuser showing its performance ambitions.

Engines found are the 2.0 TDI with 125kW (170hp) and 350Nm of torque, the 2.7TDI of 140 kW (190hp) and 400Nm, the 3.0TDI with 500Nm, and petrols which include the 155kW (210hp) 2.0TFSI and the 3.2-litre V6.

Audi is expected to unveil the A5 Sportback tomorrow July 16 during a ceremony that celebrates 100 years of Audi. German pricing will start at €36,050.

that ´s the old rendering (march) from fourtitude, it is not officiual, look here:

the fortitude article says photos by Audi AG. so that would make it official, not a rendering?

it says: photos by Audi AG, CGIs (Computer generated imagery) by George Achorn.

i guess that only the black and white drawings on that fourtitude site are original Audi, but not that A5 Sportback photo above. Audi would never release pictures of a new car 6 months before official presentation (which is on the IAA in autumn). it is always top secret.

catchmyshadow, the design sketches and top image are from Audi. The blue CGI is from fourtitude.

Even if this was a rendering (Brian I know it isnt) what else would it look like? It was so incrediably predictable...

A5 Sportback = A4 Hatchback.

I'll take one in blue with "Cook Pass Babtridge" graffitied down the side.

crappy commercial car, i wonder why every car company keeps producing clony vehicles, what a point to make A5 when there are already A3,A4,A6,A8...tell me when they make A10 and A12 please

It's ok, nothing special. But still CRAPS all over the 5-series GT.

Agreed. The 5er GT is far too tall and has a too-fat rear end. This SportBack is sleeker in roofline, but remains tall-waisted and slab-sided. I was hoping for slightly lower window sills and more aggressivly styled lines over the front and rear wheel wells. I wanted a sexy, heart-crushingly beautiful babe - I got - well, I got "nice" - but certainly not "HOT." Oh, well, how long before this 4-door-coupe-sport-wagon-sedan fad is over?

i found something. i guess that´s the source that WCF used for the article. BUT it is not about a new picture it is about this price list, which appeared in the last couple of days:

http://www.audi.de/etc/medialib/ngw/product/pdf/price_lists.Par.0006.File.pdf

by the way, looks like the A5 Sportback is cheaper than the A5 Coupe and they put in the s-tronic dual clutch now.

Awww no, it looks so boring... Nice but boring. Bring on the BMW

BMW tried and failed already with the 5 series GT (Great Tragedy). No doubt the 3 series GT will be a flop as well.

Yeahh I know, what I mean is funnily enough I would rather have the 5 GT than this becuase that has a little bit of personality...

xenomorph
July 16, 2009 12:23 PM
Thats pretty sad someone would even consider a 5 series GT over this. BMW really do have the honour of creating the worst looking cars in the world. A pig on wheels isn't a very nice "personality" for a car to have either. Some people...

"Leaked" ??? Oh World Car Fans... that side facing picture is just a stupid fake ... embarrasing. The other ones of the photo shoot are just weeks old :(

FP23, although we don't have confirmation it appears the image is official.

Yes, we are fully aware the A5 sportback spy photos attached to this article were posted a few weeks ago. We added them as a point of reference in addition to a Larson rendering.

So no embarrassment here... lol

i have serious doubts that this picture is a official photo.

by the way... audi made and still make nice cars, but they should sharpen their design language ... hopefully the new A8 oder the A7 make some steps "further"

As good looking as always, but what's wrong with the normal A4? Imagine how good if they design the A4 this way.

catchmyshadow
July 15, 2009 2:38 PM
@Brian, it is the same as the 3 month old pic from fourtitude and not official. if u look at the tailights and back part of it and compare it with the official sketch (2nd pictue on the rite here) of the back u will see that this is just a rendered A5 coupe.

FP23
July 15, 2009 2:56 PM
Wow, BrianWCF ... so your competence is even worse I thougt ... this is just a cheap photoshop art work ... end of discussion. It really bad made ... you can see it's edited on the window line though the shade is not correct and you can't look inside the car and details (like taillights) are copied of A5 Coupe (does not feature LED Lights f.e.)

So WCF seems to be blind on the one hand and deaf on the other.

It's an Audi. They understand sleek and sexy. Just give us the color choices and we'll take it from there.

This car is so boring, the more i look at it the more i get bored. If/ when i see one in the street itll just be another broing car, ill look at it and go meh, but if a standard 5 series drives past i will look and get a little warm feeling inside like that is a nice looking car. This is just missing something.

xenomorph
July 16, 2009 12:25 PM
What a comment! Pretty sad someone gets a warm feeling iside over a 5 series.

Nothing really special here, but a much better choice over that awful 5 series GT.

July 15, 2009 5:02 PM
this is so... whatever. looks like any other hatchback on the market, like the mazda 6, the insignia, the mondeo... just... ordinary looking. yes, it is beautiful indeed... but way too predictable.

Mazda 626 5 Door from the 90's resurrected!

The poor A4 platform is being over-stretched: A4 saloon, A4 Avant, A4 All-Road, A5, A5 Cabrio, A5 Sportback...

I'd rather get an A4 Avant and take a nice vacation with the money I saved.
