Could a CTS-V Sport Wagon be next?

General Motors Vice Chairman Bob Lutz has confirmed that the Cadillac CTS-V coupe has gotten the greenlight.  Lutz, a longtime auto executive now in charge of marketing at GM, made the announcement during a web-chat on the automaker's FastLane website.

"As of now the V package is planned only for the sedan and coupe," Lutz wrote.  He also left the door open for additions to the product lineup.  A sport-wagon variant of the CTS is due out in 2010, which will certainly spur some requests for a V version of the model.  To this, Lutz said that if the demand exists, "there is no reason why we couldn't do a V-Series wagon, and I would be standing in line for one, just ahead of you."

The V package gives the CTS the same 6.2-liter V8 engine found on the Corvette ZR1.  Using the 556 horsepower engine that produces up to 551 ft-lb of torque, the CTS-V sedan managed a blistering 7:59.32 lap on the 'Ring.  Helping out the driver is the Vette's six-speed Tremec TR-6060 manual transmission.  The V-packaged sedan was introduced alongside the CTS coupe at the 2008 North American International Auto Show.  This coupe should hit the market in summer, 2010.

Aside from Cadillac, Lutz was also talking Pontiac.  The company has given thought to rebranding the Pontiac G8 as the new Chevy Caprice.  Lutz told fans that the company is "studying the feasibility of bringing [the G8] in as a Caprice for both law enforcement and the public."

I don't really like it. Too many sharp lines which don't fit on this car, and you can't tell if it is a hatchback or a CTS with 2 less doors and a boot wedgie.

I love the car, but I would have to agree with you on the hatchback comment.

You obviously haven't sat in a new CTS...or read anything about it...or know anything about cars in general...

i'm shocked , this actually has a nice interior. now put that interior in the Vette and see what happens.

So it's a Corvette that looks like a premium hatchback. The problem is that a hatchback looks much cheaper than a vette, which it probably won't be.

Nope, it will be built on a shorter CTS-V platform.

I don't think it shares anything in common with the Vette except for the engine architecture and transmission.

It looks very awkward to me.

I agree with you, but it has grown on me a little. Its kind of like the GTR; at first I hated the design and now I'm starting to like it a little. The two cars are also hard for me to take my eyes off of, whether I agree with the design or not.

This car looks great, and it's a RWD luxury coupe there will always be a market for this kind of cars, there are big chances that this will be my next car, if not at least a regular CTS Coupe will be just fine.

I am not really a GM fan and I especially think Corvettes are ugly heaps of squeeks. I do like this, however.

Corvette? NEVER can step into the exotic car territories...it's a poor-man's Ferrari. it's "class" internationally EVEN lower than GTR/ NSX/ EVO/ STi...

But who even SAID that the Corvette wanted to compete with cars that are three times as expensive.

By trying to trash the Vette all you're doing is complimenting it, because you're half-admitting that, at least in some aspects, the car can rival those that are above it in price, luxury, and uselessness.

andrei2007, my point is, who the hell in this world (or in USA) will buy the $100k+ ZR1 (& all other "special" editions)? quite a few i believe. if someone can afford a sport car for more than $100k, most of them will NOT consider Corvette (except some die-hard fans)! it's the brand, the heritage, the prestique, materials & quality! WHY GM still spend fortune on R&D to make something that's...not many people interested? like this Caddy CTS coupe...i don't think it can out-sell BMW 3-series coupe/ Mercedes E-class coupe/ Audi A5...that's the segment this coupe compete against...

Old grannies with attitude will buy this. Florida will be littered with them

haha any grandma who has 556 hp under her right foot is a grandma I want to hang out with! I actually think Caddy has been doing a great job of appealing to a younger crowd since the Lutz era.

GM has lost its credibility so much that nothing they do now will sell. If it survives this windfall, and the economy recovers, things like these might start selling for GM.

Bob Lutz again...CTS is nice & selling good, now this old man with old-time mind think the same formula on ALL forms of body style...gonna milk it until everyone feels bored to look at it. this coupe (this is NOT a hatchback) is the first one to start...it's freaking ugly! especially from b-pillar to the rear...

I guess Lutz is trying to jump on the E class coupe bandwagon. Anyway does anyone have any Ideal of the approximate weight of this cts?

The desighn of Caddy is different from Merc, BMW etc. and that's why i like it. It has a some expressions in desighn, some fantastik shape. Cosmic jet

The backend is just way too tall to be a coupe, more like a hatchback

I like it however I feel that they should go with a new design language for the future. One of GM's big problem in the past is keeping up with everyone. They should sit back and rethink this coupe. it is nice but it has to have some sexiness to it and right now it has those hard edges, they should make it more curvy. Then they would really have something.

For a non GM fan i must say that Pontiac G8 is one really great car, and canceling it is like shooting your main artist, producer being. About the cts-v coupe, i don't like the back .. it come's too narrow and metalic, it should be more artistic than that.
