Despite the Gullwing Doors I would still prefer the DBS. But this is not to say that the SLS is not good. It's better than the DBS on paper by a substantial margin, but the DBS looks so good on the road (as if it didn't even look good in the pictures). The SLS just has celebrity car written all over it. It's a shame that idiots have to ruin such a good car.

Top Gear and Edmunds (and I'm guessing a bunch of other journalists) drove it at the Nurburgring recently. It was a 95% complete pre-production version. Are you sure the pics aren't from there? http://foreman.blogs.topgear.com/2009/07/14/driven-new-merc-sls/

cool car... i don't think this car can be compared to the DBS quite frankly. two different cars really. i mean this one is fully trying to bring back its old gullwing brother back to life. the DBS is its own car made from scratch compared to this.... definitly i'd have the DBS over this design wise, but history wise and also where this cars coming from i'd have this too :P.

can't wait to see what AMG is capable of. this should be something for the ///M division to think about.

At least it has great power, a nice interior and cool doors. That's just about it.

We all saw the leaked pictures, but the car is still camouflaged, wtf?

This car is too retro for it's own good. I'm sick of it already as well. Very limited target market, anyone with the money have a lot better choices to pick from. I'll take a Gallardo.

i would get a Wiesmann MF4 roadster over any other sportscar, but i like the SLS too.

The SLR mclaren was already a realext sportscar, very luxurious and automatic. This is exactly like that, it still is very luxurious and again has an automatic, how boring!

the SLR had a 5 speed auto, this has a 7 speed dual clutch gearbox.

i finally made my decision: i simply adore those Gullwing doors but the rest just looks like weisswurst (or bratwurst for the darker colours). maybe the Gullwing doors alone are worth buying it or at least renting it for a few days, maybe...

Forget this coupe because there is a roadster coming up in which it does not have gullwing doors, just normal. http://www.autoexpress.co.uk/news/autoexpressnews/238549/mercedes_slc_roadster.html

This car is very puzzling. It looks amazing in the spy photos and like a disaster in those renderings. I don't know what to think. Also, I hope they translate the design of the original 300SL gullwing's wheel arches to this car.

That's one crazy driving position! I think sitting that far back would take some getting used to

I don't think benz tried to make a hardcore sports-car (heavy doors?), more a m'as-tu-vu boulevard cruiser genre Z8. I think 'ring times won't matter for buyers.

This car is awesome! I think it is so different from anything else out there. All high end sports cars have the same wedge shape it seems. This car is far different than anything else, and is gonna have a tuned version of the AMG 63 motor. Have you heard that motor in person? It is a beast. This car is going to be unbelievable if they get the weight distribution right. If it's too nose heavy it'll understeer like many other AMG's.

The 7 speed dual clutch transmission is in the rear so the weight distribution will be bang on not to mention the engine sitting well behind the front wheels. this should post a good nurburgring lap time.

the car just looks a 70s future designed car, what's the designer thinking about?
