Things have begun heating up leading to the 2009 Frankfurt Motor Show. One big name expected to make a big splash during the show is Bugatti. The Volkswagen Group-owned brand is celebrating 100 years in existence by unveiling a brand new model but officials are not quite willing to share information about it yet. Speculators have called the car the Bugatti Royale while others believe it is referred to internally as Project Lydia, after the brand founder's wife. WCF has been covering this talk since 2006 when the rumours first surfaced of a four-door Veyron.

Such secrecy on the part of Bugatti has given rise to endless guesses about where exactly Bugatti is going with its new sure-to-be-highly-exclusive car. After conquering the world of supercars with the 407km/h Veyron the next most popular place to go is surely the super sedan segment. Players in that space, albeit not quite in Bugatti league, include the Rolls-Royce Phantom and the upcoming Grand Bentley.

Incidentally the rumours are that the new model at Frankfurt will be sedan and that the production car might borrow some of its resources from cousin Grand Bentley.

This teaser picture which was scanned from an invitation to the exclusive reveal party shows LED rear tailights and more importantly a vertically-mounted LED Center High Mounted Stop Lamp that portrays a rear end similar to the attached artist renderings.  The flames of speculation have officially been fanned once again.

Man look at the rear Led tailights! those look sweet, eventhough i really love the veyron tailights. Looks like it got 4 mufflers too, two on each side, and not a fugly way-to-big in the middle! Can't wait for this going public.

I just hope it's not a sedan, I'm sorry but Bugatti as a sedan is just wrong in so many ways. I don't even like the fact that Lamborghini went so low as to developing a sedan. Next thing your going to say that Zonda family will be introducing a entry level sport car to compete against the 370Z.

Yeah because, you know, Bugatti has only ever made mid-engined supercars...

its in bugattis history that they made ultra luxurious cars. the bugatti royale was built only for royal families and it was no sports car.

I'm sorry to burst your Bugatti bubble...but Bugatti has made sedans and touring coupes (rather expensive ones!) before their first collapse.

Also before being bought by VW they made licensing agreements with BBS that made Bugatti wheels available for the mass market. (I'm guessing it was done under the Artioli era of Bugatti.)

These were usually seen on beat up old generation BMW's and the sort that did not have too much sporting or luxury images.

But that's the past...I'm looking forward to whatever this car will be because they have a reputation to keep up after the Veyron. I'm guessing it will be something profitable for them this time around.

Taillights look like those off a an Aston Martin. Don't like the idea of a sedan. Seems like every bodies trying to make one after Porsche announced the Panamera.

Sports sedans invented with the CLS? Should never be Bugatti saloons? Does no one here so any research?

This looks to have a split rear screen and is obviously front engined. I'd guess on rear seats but ut could be 2 or 4 door.

I bet it's a super-duper-cross-over. Based on the Cayenne platform, this will probably be a coupe shaped hatchback with SUV-like stance, front wheel drive and a state-of-the-art high-end inline 8 cylinder diesel VW engine specially tuned by Audi to deliver ~400bhp under Lamborghini's cleaning lady supervision and while on a teleconference with Bentley's head night-guard. Of course, in true contemporary Bugatti style, the engine will in fact be made from two VW engines, this time 2.0 TDIs to meet new stringent environmental laws. Don't worry, the 16 sequential turbines (2 for each cylinder) will make the car go like the very fastest agricultural equipment. It will feature only the best materials and boat-like interior design, complete with a boat wheel, a helipad and olimpic-size swimming pool. All this luxury and pure automotive vision for only 1.000.000 of you region's currency (only available in the US/UK and Euro states). Hurry up and get yours, the first 10 cars, which is the first year's entire production run, have already been pre-ordered by VW CEOs for their wives! P.S. Starting the second year of production, each individual car will be a "special edition" to actually sell 10 cars a year. P.P.S. The car will obviously be named the Bugatti Moron!

Now say they do build a sedan, you know the only place you'll see it drive is by some greedy saudi why the rest of the coutry is trying to make enough to feed themselves.

That looks like one of two things: a rocket-car or a hatchback. Both are questionable directions. Replace the Veyron already! It's great but it's just TOOOOOOO popular. It was and is a great (understatement) car that was destroyed by the people who bought it. Luckily, that won't happen with the One-77.
