The good folks over at Autobild have released several new leaked images of the upcoming Mercedes SLS AMG Gullwing.

Following last week's initial leak, the new pictures provide us our first uncamouflaged glimpse of the Gullwing's side profile and rear end. While the photos fail to provide a decent view of the cockpit, Mercedes has already released several official images of the interior.

Inspired by the classic 1954 Mercedes 300 SL, the new SLS AMG features a massive 6.2-liter V8 engine with 571 hp (420 kW) and 650 Nm (479 lb-ft) of torque. Thanks to the aforementioned engine and Mercedes' seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox, the supercar rockets from 0-100 km/h in 3.8 seconds before hitting a top speed of 315 km/h (196 mph).

Despite these "early unveilings," Mercedes will officially debut the new SLS AMG Gullwing at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September.

the headlights are a huge no no. the gullwing doors on the other hand are very bling blingish. they should have asked some car fanatics before finishing the design. most on here have a better feeling for design.

But most here don't have a better feel for money, which is unfortunately what the target audience for this car has.

Er, I don't like it now. I know it is meant to be retro, but it doesn't fit in here. Retro designs like the Mini and 500 are good, but trying it on this makes the SLS look dated.

Is that red cover from Ferrari? Never mind. Nice retro car. Waiting for something real modern is same like to expect for no crisis in that very industry.

sad to say iam disapointed in the design, it just doesnt work well together. part by part its not too bad a nice retro design but joint together it fails to flow and keep design intent intact.

I like the front but the rear looks from somewhere else. In fact it looks so much like the 1998 Acura CL. http://www.theautochannel.com/media/photos/acura/1998/98_acura_cl2.jpg

I love how its a new take on the classic SL Gullwing design. It looks spectacular, although i do agree, those headleads need a change. They don't fit it.

i think that this design is unsuccessful and and i know the slr is ashamed of its successor

lol u know its funny that in addission to the sh*ty design this car has 100 hp less than the slr

I like this design much better than the SLR. The SLR in person was kind of bloated looking. The nose was obscenely long. This looks like a very tight package (that's what she said). The headlights are not my favorite, but the overall shape of the car is awesome.

I don't want to judge the car on these poor quality scans but so far it looks very unspectacular. However in the real world I can see that long bonnet looking very nice indeed.

Merc should come with some other car for their new "Gullwing" !!! This car doesn't have neither the 50 % of the looks from the original. Beside the special doors there is nothing special : CL front grille, GT R headlights (front resemblance), Z8 stops and some bigger Z4 coupe line. I would rather buy an SL or CL that this "new" classic Merc. Bad for you .. the designer should be fired.

Acouple of things Iam not crazy about the headlights either but.. I dont think white is the right color for this car and I dont like the rims either, but, maybe this is a almost production prototype, I have to reserve judgement till I see the real thing, and some cars are just incredibly beautiful but at some angles they dont photograph well we all know that

they are not saying anything new, the technical specs, that McLaren was replaced by AMG, the usual things.

I feel it's mixture of Nissan Z and BMW Z8 ! Anyway, it's really beautiful design. Bravo, Mercedes!

Some of you need to wait to see it in person. And keep in mind the kind of market Mercedes is trying to target. Just like the SLR Sterling Moss, Mercedes is targeting the specific tastes of Wealthy Men of 45+ years of age who have fond memories of the Classic Gullwing as a young man and now in 2010 wants a modern take of History.

It talks about Mercedes and AMG working on an electric aided version of the sls that would be 4 wheel drive and that they are working on weight reduction to be able to put it into production

Velsatis, please do not double post. More than one link is spam. Electric SLS story has already been covered.

the profile is perfect, but the design of the headlamps, looks like they ran out of ideas. circular headlamps would've worked a whole lot better

First close your eyes then imagine this sleeping beauty in black and listen carefully to the angry engine, the sound is deep... hey wakeup, don't be fooled by this meek look there's a beast hidden under. This called manipulation... Benz always do this. Each time they make a car, they publish the images, people say it's UGLY, and then we see it on road, face to face, we stand in front of it like a tree till the eyes get off the faces, come on... When Benz creates a car they made it to last, to never get bored of... because it's easy to make a trendy car but it will shock us only once.

I always have a laugh when ppl say the lights or the grill look like there off some other car. And someone is copying someone else people need to remember there is over 70 manufacturers & some slight resemblence is going to occur making a car 100% unique is almost impossible these days. How many manufacturers have copied MB idea of indicators in the mirrors. And yes i know some asian car companies just out & out rip off other ppl's design.

This car was designed before the release of the Z4 so by luck both cars have almost the same tail lights
