Yes, the 300hp version is 5hp short of the 135i and also 2 meters short in drive-train lenght ;) My point is, having 300bhp on the front wheels with no LSD makes a very nice dragster!

Dragster? Try getting 300hp FWD off the line first with no LSD or slicks! 300 bhp, turbo charged and a 0-60 time of 6sec? pretty lame.

agreeed. just get an S3 - it only has 265bhp, but does 0-62.5 in 5.9 seconds cos it has quattro

It's more of a novelty niche kind of car. 28,500 Eur will get you the standard GTI with DSG, 11,000 Eur will get you a rare, unique and noticeable car. In effect, around about the same price as an S3 which is deliberately understated. Though I might not spend that kind of money on a Golf, I do understand people who would, and they couldn't care less if it's faster than this or that - they just know it's fast, that they belong to the esoteric 1% of car enthusiasts, and that their car is special.
