2010 Jaguar XJ leaked photos - 800

Full official details coming on Thursday, 9 July

Following months of spy pictures, speculation, teasers (including videos) and very little official information, the Jaguar XJ will finally be unveiled tomorrow (Thursday, 9th of July 2009) during an exclusive event in London. That is when more intimate details and full images will be available. For now take a closer look at these leaked pictures.

The next XJ is promised to be the new class-leader in a segment led by the BMW 7 Series and the Mercedes-Benz S-Class, as well as the Audi A8 and the Lexus LS. Jaguar seeks to reclaim its spot alongside these luminaries after years of being sidelined by both buyers and the motoring media.

Jaguar is using aerospace-inspired aluminium body architecture for the first time in a car with the XJ. The technology is next-generation stuff and is likely to filter down into other next-generation Jaguars.

Powerful engines will match or even outperform some of its competitors. Here we can mention engines like the new 275hp (202kW), 600Nm 3.0-litre twin turbo diesel and the 5.0-litre V8 with natural aspiration. A supercharged XJR might use the engine that makes 510hp (380kW) in the XFR/ XKR but have its power upped to keep up with the BMW 760i and the Mercedes-Benz S 63 AMG. Of course this is just pure speculation at this point in time.

Prospective customers will be able to register their orders after 19:30 GMT on Thursday. First deliveries are to take place in early 2010.

I like the face and the profile but the rear end is too korean or chinese for me. Should be more aggressive at the back.

He is wonderful! Strong and aggressive front and rear in the style of all british luxury cars

When I saw the rear end I allmost thought it was a dacia or some korean pice of $$#@$. From the fron until somewhere in the middle it looks good, it's pretty low also, but then all goes wrong I think, the back door and the window behind it are audi a8, then the have a black pice of metal to make it look it is the back window. The rearlights look like an afthertought, based on looks I'll take the 2002 BMW 7 series over this.

Congratulations Tata, you've brought back Jaaguar to it's deserved throne.

The front looks agressive and atractive, but the rear... it will be better something similar to the XF, although this is really an evolution from the previous XJ

SIMILAR to the XF? Ian Callum has just enlarged a drawing of the XF on a photocopier! that's a Porsche school of design tactic

Looks alright, this will never go higher than the Mercedes S-Class and BMW 7-Series, those two are in a different league. This jaguar is placed with the AudiA8 and the Lexus LS, but as i see it now, its on the top of those two cars, but im sure Audi will soon be back in the top with their new AudiA8.

they really f&$#ed up the rear i would mind if it was the same as the xf

those c-pillars really are awkward. its something an upstart korean or chinese car manufacturer might risk trying, not jaguar

1/2 a Jag XF, 1/4 Maserati Quattroporte, 1/4 Lancia Thesis. Not a coherent design but I can imagine it looking good in dark colours.

As there seems to be consensus, the back is an issue for me. If the rear windscreen was more erect and came down where that blacked out section is, then they'd be in business.

Looks like photoshopped by mixing Jag XF + Citroen,I'll remain skeptical till the official unveil

Seems like one could paint the C-pillars body color and the last segment of the roof black to match the glass section and you'd solve half the problem. Don't know what to do about those taillights...are they leapers, like the mascot? They seem to be trying to outrun the car. Profile and front are just lovely and befitting a Jaguar, but now there seem to be no true luxury sedans with attractive rear ends.

the geometry is nice (a bit A7-ish), the front looks okay, the rear is fugly and reminds me of this ugly fella:

Thought the rear end picture was a photoshop at first..Really shocked me! But it looks different and I looove different, give me a couple of days and I will really start to love this car!Well done to the whole design team!

I realise Im repeating what most have expressed already but the front is modern and powerful, the profile is good bar the strange blacked out C-pillar, while the rear is just lousy. There is no coherence with the styling up front.

Hopefully the mid-life update will resolve those rear lights - It will undoubtedly be a fantastic machine but the rear styling will be the only black mark against it. Wonder what the interior is like...

i agree with catch my shadow, geometrically wise the car is a bit off, it is too stretchy just like the xf, and if from the sides it resembles a 7 series, hell take out that grill put the twin kidney you have a 7 series...overall good job for jaguar that car will command attention and they need that, cant wait to see the specs sheet though

I've been one of the biggest critics of Jaguar over the past several years but, I must say, I definitely see more positives than negatives this time around. Surprisingly, I actually kind of like it.

However, two really big problems remain. Why did they use Lincoln's Mkz tail lights (I thought Jag said bye bye to Ford)? And the contrast of chrome trim on the section of blackened C-pillar was a big mistake; you can't have it both ways. I know the visual impression they were trying to give here, but it doesn't work.

July 9, 2009 4:42 AM
I wonder if Jag tried to copy the Citroen C6 rear end. Other than that the car is very attractive and a HUGE step away from the old fuddy duddy XJ.....although in XJR trim, in black with the 20" wheels it looked gangster. I can't wait to see the update. Well done!

WOW! That rear end is WAY to chinese looking! I cant look at it it is so horrible. In that profile view the front end kida looks like a Quattroporte - I like the Quattroporte but hate it when design is copied. If this end up coming off the production like, i will be very disapointed in Jag. Especially after the XF

Nice and strong design language, it's high time to depart from the old XJs.

Say what you will, I think it carries some controversy as well as any BMW by Bangle which sold well and I hope this one does as well to.

Hats off to Jag, Callum and goodluck to Tata to sell'em all.

Just don't make a Jaguar IQ (or Nano) concept :)

It is almost pefect. The only thing I don't like is the blacked out d-pillar.

Aesthetics
July 9, 2009 8:28 AM
i like the lines around the window. shape seems conventional and that protruding front nose line reminds of the lexus sc430....i agree....the rear lights just murder the whole rear end. has to be sorted.

the front is mean and ugly which seems to attract some

Schizo0223
July 9, 2009 8:52 AM
I agree with the other folks and think that it reminds me of the Quatroporte in first appearance. It's an evolution of the new design language for Jaguar introduced with the new XF.

It's not that bad...it just doesn't have the old world charm of the old XJ...it feels more Dolce & Gabbana or Prada than Savile Row.

But the thing I liked the most about the old XJ was the cozy interior...I can't wait to see what they did with the inside.

saw this last night at that website.

The front is more C-XF than XF, which is nice, but the back is not curvy enough to be elegant and graceful, also the boot line is too high.

I wanted so much to love this car. And I do, I do. But I want my eyes to flow smoothly from one end of a Jag to another. There are too many styling interruptions. The blacked out C pillars are just not necessary. Neither are the taillights which extend vertically rather than horizontally like on the XF. This was probably done to liberate metal on the bootlid for that premium feel, but breaks styling cohesion, something I hoped Jag would maintain with the new generation (the S-type was the chink the last time around, fat old thing). This break in cohesion continues - Horizontal side vents vs vertical (which I prefer) and most of all the headlights. Ah, you think it's similar, but after the C-XF concept which had exactly these lights, we were let down by the XF's lights, we thought it was not possible. Now we know it IS possible, and the XF just looks like a lumpy, retarded younger brother. Never a good thing.

July 9, 2009 4:15 PM
The designers began to work on the C-XF as the developing of the XF was nearly finished - there was no opportunity to make major changes on the design.

Kakaofos
July 9, 2009 6:02 PM
They agreed XF-concept's h-lights too good for its production version and hold them for older. I like it. I think it's the most beautiful car in the segment, along with Maseratti 4-porte, or even maybe the one. I love its coupe-like silhouette (this reminds me Tesla Modes-S, which reminded Aston Martin). Back is not bad, but I would be more impressed if get horizontal taillihgts in DB9's style. But the black-covered d-pillars are unnecessary, they never looks as common back windscreen.

Yup, front and side are good, back just blows. And they said the rear of the Panamera looked ugly?? It has grown on me and I actually like the car, this...will not. YUCK!

The XF is nice car & the XJ looks nice too apart from the rear, but none of them look like jaguars, the design language that made a JAG a JAG is dying and i will miss it dearly. its ok to play with all the other cars looks but the XJ's design was not changed it evolved through out its life.I think they should have just continued the evolution and tinkered with all the other models

GOOD BYE JAGUAR XJ

HELLO TATA XJ

you know what, everytime i go back and take a look at those pictures, i like it more and more. it is really one graceful, sexy design. too bad i still can't get used to those blacked out pillars, but... still a front runner on the full size beauty contest.

my only question is: now that even the xj has become a sexy beast... then there are no other jaguars to be driven in? too bad... now i guess one will have to go for a bentley or a rr in order to be chauffered in british style.

maybe now could be the perfect time for tata to come up with a huge, traditional, noble and 'very british' luxury saloon, designed for people who want/need to be driven... and call it a daimler. now THAT is a heritage.

Iconic
July 9, 2009 10:19 PM
It would be perfect if it weren't so dam ugly! just kidding, it's not bad. I just think it will get boring really fast. Sure it's long sleek, and elegant, but there's nothing revolutionary about this design. Which I believe is what Jaguar needs right now.

ubercool

This is the new benchmark in luxury motoring, may take time for some people to get used to something so revolutionary mind.

It’s tough to reinvent an icon like the XJ. Let’s face it, the XJ was long in the tooth and needed more than an evolutionary update to have any family resemblance to the XKR, which I like a lot.

The new XJ and XF share some of those design characteristics. I read an article about the BMW 6 series in Autocar. I thought they nailed it saying “it’s to be admired but not desired.”

IMO, the interior of the XK is one of the nicest designs out there and it is beautifully executed. It has a special and desirable quality that is missing from others, such as the Mercedes CL. I hope the new instrument display doesn’t sabotage that sense with the XJ.

The XF is a nice design. I don’t know that I like the XJ better. I’ll wait until I see one in person. I think this one will grow on me in a way that the 7 series never has.
