Following months of spy pictures, speculation, teasers (including videos) and very little official information, the Jaguar XJ will finally be unveiled tomorrow (Thursday, 9th of July 2009) during an exclusive event in London. That is when more intimate details and full images will be available. For now take a closer look at these leaked pictures.
The next XJ is promised to be the new class-leader in a segment led by the BMW 7 Series and the Mercedes-Benz S-Class, as well as the Audi A8 and the Lexus LS. Jaguar seeks to reclaim its spot alongside these luminaries after years of being sidelined by both buyers and the motoring media.
Jaguar is using aerospace-inspired aluminium body architecture for the first time in a car with the XJ. The technology is next-generation stuff and is likely to filter down into other next-generation Jaguars.
Powerful engines will match or even outperform some of its competitors. Here we can mention engines like the new 275hp (202kW), 600Nm 3.0-litre twin turbo diesel and the 5.0-litre V8 with natural aspiration. A supercharged XJR might use the engine that makes 510hp (380kW) in the XFR/ XKR but have its power upped to keep up with the BMW 760i and the Mercedes-Benz S 63 AMG. Of course this is just pure speculation at this point in time.
Prospective customers will be able to register their orders after 19:30 GMT on Thursday. First deliveries are to take place in early 2010.

Hopefully the mid-life update will resolve those rear lights - It will undoubtedly be a fantastic machine but the rear styling will be the only black mark against it. Wonder what the interior is like...
Nice face; shame about... everything else really!
However, two really big problems remain. Why did they use Lincoln's Mkz tail lights (I thought Jag said bye bye to Ford)? And the contrast of chrome trim on the section of blackened C-pillar was a big mistake; you can't have it both ways. I know the visual impression they were trying to give here, but it doesn't work.

Say what you will, I think it carries some controversy as well as any BMW by Bangle which sold well and I hope this one does as well to.
Hats off to Jag, Callum and goodluck to Tata to sell'em all.
Just don't make a Jaguar IQ (or Nano) concept :)
the front is mean and ugly which seems to attract some
It's not that bad...it just doesn't have the old world charm of the old XJ...it feels more Dolce & Gabbana or Prada than Savile Row.
But the thing I liked the most about the old XJ was the cozy interior...I can't wait to see what they did with the inside.
Edit: Just saw the countdown timer at the official site: http://www.jaguar.com/allnewxj/default.htm

The front is more C-XF than XF, which is nice, but the back is not curvy enough to be elegant and graceful, also the boot line is too high.
Jaguar canceled these photos on wish between other already Carscoop!

GOOD BYE JAGUAR XJ
HELLO TATA XJ
my only question is: now that even the xj has become a sexy beast... then there are no other jaguars to be driven in? too bad... now i guess one will have to go for a bentley or a rr in order to be chauffered in british style.
maybe now could be the perfect time for tata to come up with a huge, traditional, noble and 'very british' luxury saloon, designed for people who want/need to be driven... and call it a daimler. now THAT is a heritage.
The new XJ and XF share some of those design characteristics. I read an article about the BMW 6 series in Autocar. I thought they nailed it saying “it’s to be admired but not desired.”
IMO, the interior of the XK is one of the nicest designs out there and it is beautifully executed. It has a special and desirable quality that is missing from others, such as the Mercedes CL. I hope the new instrument display doesn’t sabotage that sense with the XJ.
The XF is a nice design. I don’t know that I like the XJ better. I’ll wait until I see one in person. I think this one will grow on me in a way that the 7 series never has.
