Lamborghini Gallardo up in flames

The supercar gods continue to be angry

The supercar gods continue to be angry at the super rich, as yet another high-priced exotic has gone up in flames.

This 2005 Lamborghini Gallardo "burst" into flames on Friday, in the UK, shortly after eyewitnesses saw smoke billowing from the engine compartment. Although an investigation is currently underway, firemen reported the car burned more intensely because of the Gallardo's carbon fiber and alloy construction.

The £75,000 ($120,580 USD) Gallardo was a complete loss, but thankfully both occupants seem to have escaped uninjured.

As we have previously reported, this year has been bad for supercars as a Ferrari 430 burnt to the ground after an accident in Romania and a McLaren F1 spontaneously combusted in California.

The Gallardo is almost German isn't it?

2 Floppy: what a stupid comment. It´s not because the car is italian, or german, or american. It´s because of the people who drive it or the insufficient air for the engine.

Lambos are getting too German these days as it is . . . Never thought I'd see the day when a Lambo would come with 4WD (SUVs excepting).

Remember that before Audi took control of Lamborghini, there was already a 4WD Lambo, the Diablo VT ;)

exactly, Diablo VT had 4WD, so it's not Audi idea to put 4WD in Lambos

What caused the fire? The engine overheating?

i think it`s an electrical problem because we have a lot of supercars here in middle east and the weather is almost 60 degree all the summer and we never heard of a supercar catches fire after overheating problems

That's not the Gallardo going up in flames...it's just the flames coming out of the exhaust.

Is it that hard to keep a Fire Extinguisher in your car?... don't tell me there's no room for it!? :-) Obrigado

Seems like those mid/rear engine cars are over heating due to lack of air flow, and it doesn't help that the fuel tanks are near by if they do catch fire...

hundreds of thousands of dollars burned in fire.... that's a huge waste, if you just rammed a Honda it's only a few thousands, don't worth it.... On youtube, a Z06 raced a Gallardo, and you can tell the Gallardo is putting all it's power in the race, but still lost, to a $80,000 Corvette Z06? that's my car right there. Too many European Cars broke down all these years, and the price never worth it...
