Renault has let one of its most treasured futuristic creations, the Z.E. Concept (which stands for zero emissions) run loose at the Goodwood Festival of Speed at the Silverstone race track in the UK last weekend.

The Z.E. is an electric vehicle based on the Renault Kangoo Be-Bop. Renault put the 2 million pound car (about 2.3 million euros) out on the track along with a couple of other rarities from the French carmaker's museum in Paris - an Ondelios and a 1959 electric Dauphine.

The rather pricey Z.E. Concept is a one-of its kind, hand-crafted fully-electric vehicle. It features Acid Green-colored windows and solar panels on the roof. At the event, the Z.E. took a ride up Goodwood Hill and mingled with company such as a Jaguar XJ13 and an Aston Martin DBR1.

The Festival of Speed is a 3-day event which took place at the Goodwood House, West Sussex, England between the 3rd and 5th of July.

Renault first unveiled the Z.E. Concept at the Paris motor show in 2008.

RENAULT Z.E. (ZERO EMISSION) CONCEPT SHOCKS GOODWOOD FESTIVAL OF SPEED

While a succession of high-powered Renault race cars thrilled the vast, 135,000-strong crowd at Silverstone during the World Series by Renault weekend, the second largest motorsport event in the UK, a futuristic electric car was generating quite a buzz of its own at the Goodwood Festival of Speed.

Over the three-day event, Renault's Z.E. (Zero Emission) Concept, which dazzled at the Paris Motor Show a few months ago, joined two other ultra-rare cars, Ondelios and a 1959 electric Dauphine, from the brand's Paris museum to showcase the French marque's green credentials.

Not just transported over the English Channel to sit idle in Renault's area of the Goodwood FoS-Tech Pavilion, the Kangoo be bop-based three-door also took to the hillclimb route, much to the delight of the awe-inspired onlookers.

As the only one of its kind, and worth around £2 million, the hand-built concept car navigated its way serenely around the route, providing a remarkable contrast to the vintage road and race cars around it. At one point on the route, close to Goodwood House, the outlandish Z.E. Concept, replete with its Acid Green windows and roof-mounted solar panels, joined a Jaguar XJ13 and Aston Martin DBR1 for arguably one of the most surreal car parade sights ever seen at the Goodwood Festival.

I wonder if the driver can see what color is the traffic light through that Lego windscreen

@ loyo it wouldn't matter if the driver can't see what colour the light is. The red is always @ the top the amber in the middle & in this car's case the really really green would be @ the bottom.

davethepetrolhead, have you ever seen those traffic lights that are arranged horizontally? That would make it all the more complicated!

exactly pmontero In fact, what about any other situation involving colors? "911? Yes, I've just seen someone run over a pedestrian and escape in a.... errr... green car, I guess"

@ Pmontero yeah i'm aware of those horizontal lights but my point is the position of each colour never changes regardless whether the lights are vertical or horizontal.
