true beauty. they should take it as an example and go back to the essence of tuning. not that 'newly rich' sh*t that they about nowadays.

Probably the only modified Mercedes-Benz I actually like just because it's an old SEL.

"Lorinser : Ruining the other 10% 's automobiles, since before you knew what making a nice car kitsch means...". That SEL is nice, though- albeit I'm sure it looked more classy in std. spec. I just wish tuners learned that some cars are about class, not pimpmobiles.

The movies "C'etait un Rendezvous" and "Ronin" show how a Mercedes-Benz 6.9 can capture your heart and mind and live forever. Personally, I don't like cars that look too aerodynamic and, therefore, too homogenized and ultimately forgettable. This has a lot to do with the fact that I got my driver's license in the late 1980s in a light blue metallic 1979 280SE W116 with many miles on its odometer. Today, it seems few people appreciate the W116, but its shape had one foot in the past and one foot in the future. You can see the glorious chrome details of the past combined with a forward-looking emphasis on safety and aerodynamics in the W116, but you are never in doubt about what kind of car it is because its shape proudly states "Mercedes-Benz" without needing any badges to clarify the point. If those bumpers were fitted to the car in 1975, then Lorinser are even more impressive to me because they would have offered a glimpse of the subsequent S-Class W126. The next owner should be very proud to drive this beautiful piece of rolling art history.

FYI: the engine used in the 600 was a 6.3 (code M100), also used in the W109 300SEL 6.3. the later w116 450SEL 6.9 was a bored out version of it. AMG used to race the w109 6.3. To revive this, Benz uses 6.3 badges for their 6208cc V8.

"To revive this, Benz uses 6.3 badges for their 6208cc V8"? i thought it was because in Germany they have to round up the cc to next 100cc?

i think it's both... my uncle had a lorinser SEL back in the 80s, and my dad had a lorinser SEC. they were fantastic cars and i really miss them. if, when i'm older, i ever get a chance to acquire one, i'd do so without a second's hesitation

The best and most beautiful Mercedes-Benz ever built was the W116.

I a Sydneysider, have 6.9; I have driven quite a few others. I reviewed 6,9's for sale in Germany, and found about 20. Except parts cars, cheapest was about 6000 euros most expensive about 30,000 euros. Distance covered from about 100.000 klm to nearly 400.000klm. My car has about 155,000 klm on the clock. There about 25 6.9's in Sydney, and there perhaps 100-120 of them currently running regularly on aussie roads. There is a quite active website based in Sydney, and we are happy to share all that we know with anyone else on the planet. The name of the website is topklasse
