Rex Accelero widebody kit for Mercedes-Benz SLK 55 AMG

The tuners at Rex Accelero came up with this widebody kit when attempting to answer the question of what an SLK 55 AMG Black Series modeled after the SL 65 AMG could look like. They came up with this look which was done by moving out the front and rear fenders by about 2.5 inches. Doing this allowed for the aerodynamic parts to be placed in such a way as to give the car room to be used as a track day device.

A carbon fiber lip plus a rear diffuser will be installed in the final production models. Minimum weight and strength will be ensured by using a vacuum-bag construction. Thus a 50:50 weight distribution can be achieved. Some aspects are still being tweaked ahead of the opening of the pre-order book in September.

This prototype also has oversized tyres, H&R springs, and a standard engine. Although not the 400hp unit from the limited SLK 55 AMG Black Series, it is the same 5.4-litre V8 worth 367hp (270kW) but the California-based tuner has plans to introduce it to a supercharger with the goal of approaching 500hp (368kW). Such a thing is possible; the legendary E 55 AMG had the exact same engine, also with a supercharger and it made 476hp (350kW).

That's terrible. It looks so cheap. Like a kit car.

Ohh, don´t worry! I can. haha IMO the SLK is one of the worst things on roads. I just hate it. Prefer any MX-5, Z4, TT or whatever.

it's a work in progress. if the modding improves the handling, i'm all for it.

but lose the black rims.

I love that musciline look (I wonder it it can be done on the TT!) but the wheel arches (esp @ the back) looks a bit exagerated_

The headlamps that take on the hideous not-really-designed-for-this-car look of the facelifted SL do it no favors...

Yeah I think we should start a pettition to get a manual instead. Like the new SL AMG BLACK, 5-Auto. Where's all the fun?

It looks OK to me - but 500 hp seems like a low target. Shops like RENNtech and Kleeman have approached 700 hp with kompressor, pully, intercooler, headers, etc. Remember: the STOCK SL55 AMG made already 496 hp ...

Actually some of the information in the article is incorrect. The first pictures of my car were up before the official black series pictures were put up. The hoods come with the stock headlight covers as well.

500 hp is not an official number, I was misquoted. Furthermore, the stock car weighs around 3300 lbs, so even 500 hp would be great!
