Alfa Romeo Milano spy photos in factory

Milano design echoes its younger sibling the MiTo with a few distinct touches of its own

Here we get our first unobstructed look at the upcoming Alfa Romeo Milano, the model set to replace the outgoing 147 in the Italian brand's model lineup.

These pics, likely shot on a mobile phone camera, were placed on Facebook by an intrepid soul and have now made their way across the web for all to have a look-see.

The Milano's design clearly echoes its little sibling, the Alfa Romeo MiTo, with the oval headlights and sharp bonnet. But it also references Alfa 8C Competizione, along with having a few distinct touches of its own, particularly in the rear-end design.

We also get a peek at the inside and see Alfa Romeo holding fast to its traditional cabin design of circular instrumentation panels evoking that Italian sports car aesthetic we've come to expect of the brand.

The Milano will be built on the Fiat Group's C and D platform, or the C-Evo in internal Fiat parlance. It will come with a choice of several diesel and gasoline/petrol engines including the Fiat Group's 1.4 liter TJet turbocharged engine in both a 120 and 158 hp configuration. Also on hand to top-off the engine range will likely be a 1.75 liter turbocharged 4-banger with somewhere in the neighborhood of 200 hp.

The model is expected to be launched in Europe either late this year or in early 2010.

Nice looking set of wheels. Hey, you don't not buy an Alfa Romeo because it doesn't look good.

Exept the front, same general shape of the 2009 Lancia Delta, and better rear lights

The front looks good, the rest of the car looks like hell, that new Astra and the euro spec Honda Civic look better then this, what a shame Alfa.

hmmm....something isn't too cohesive with this design. Oval front lights with sharper rear items? Loving the shape of the glass house personally, but Alfa come on you coulda done so much better. You got the Brera, Spider, 159, GT and MiTo, all sexy cars. Why you wanna throw in the ugly sister into the party as well?

I wonder who went to the factory to take the car photo with phone camera? Anyways, it looks like a upgrade version of the mito, why? its like having the same face on the audi cars & bmw suv's.

Yes, there do appear to be some slightly odd angles on the car, but it's probably unfair to judge it until we've seen it out in the open (or even in the metal).

You're right. A lot of contemporary cars looks weird in pictures but in real life they look much better. I think this Alfa will fit in this category.

Not too bad from the slide view, but front headlights should have been rounder (eyes look too far from the nose), and the rear lights are not Alfa (a simple straight or round cluster would have been much better).

This is sad & disappointing since I wanted to like it...

It seems like the designer of the 147 and Seat Leon remains the same .

The aesthetic value and meaning of the pussy-shape grill seems to be slightly overestimated.

The point here to me is that if you don't make "special" photos with some photoshop make-up, most mid-sized cars would look terribly boring. Reality is dreadful for the talentless designers.(or maybe we have to blame the marketing specialists who want to be competitive by making all cars look quite similar!)

Horrible rear end. Doesn't fit with modern Alfa, maybe it would've done OK in the '90s. The front is a more mature version of the MiTo, which is fine by me, because that thing looks like a cartoon character. That said, I agree with abughaleb, it looks too much like its Lancia sister car, but thankfully not too much like the Fiat Bravo...

i think that there are a lot of people who pretend to like alfas and now they say that feel unhappy with alfas new model,if you dont like this car you dont like 8c competizione(one of the most beautifull cars ever) because the style is almost the same ... so beautyfull car absolut italian design, with a pussy-grille and a pussy-engine of 1750cc and 265hp in gta version..ford and alfa not even close, when an alfa passed henry ford always took of his hat...
