Audi A7 Sportback due in late 2010

Audi A7 design sketch

As stated in one or two previous articles on WCF, Audi has not cancelled any of its models but has merely postponed some for later launch dates. The leaked rollout schedule published in December 2007 says the Audi A5 Sportback will arrive in September 2009. That appears to be spot-on. What it also says is that the A7 was scheduled for release in June 2009. Clearly that did not happen.

A report now says the A7 has been moved back by a year and will only appear on showroom floors towards the end of 2010. The car will share some design elements with the A5 Sportback but is positioned higher than that. Effectively it will compete with cars like the Mercedes-Benz CLS, the Porsche Panamera and the Aston Martin Rapide.

Shaped like a coupe in the sense that it features a narrow window line and a coupe-like roof line, the A7 is unlike conventional sports coupes because, like the aforementioned cars it has four entry doors and not two. It also only has sitting space for four adults instead of five.

Engines said to have made the cut include the new supercharged 3.0-litre V6 used in the A6 and the S4/S5, as well as V8s. We reckon a 550hp-plus RS 7 would not be out of place in the company of rivals like the Panamera Turbo and the CLS 63 AMG.

The concept looks good, but I think Audi are going to end up doing an A6 with a sloping hatch door.

u don`t have to hope, it will almost be 1:1 in real life my Audi Centre salesman told me a few weeks ago. a few things are gonna be different tho: the mirrors and some parts of the interior.

Exactly, I think BMW could learn a thing or two from Audi when it comes to design

definitely my next car. almost as much room as an A8 but with the hatch much more versatile and it looks more dynamic than an A6 or A8. love it!

It's not like the A6 and A8 is very dynamic, is it? I think you are the first person to say they are dynamic cars... to most, they are boring cars with truck like handling. Why don't you rather buy an A8?

don't you know by now? Audi just do the following with all their cars: "ctrl c" switch drawing boards "ctrl v". as simple as that.

It was interesting to see this stupid Audi designer trying to explain his lastest sportback "idea", which everybody knows is exactly what BMW did with the GT (dude, there's no need to explain - just say BMW GT and we know what you're talking about)... yet he made it sound like it was his original. Bunch of losers!

I am a hardcore BMW fan.... & I dont get this new GT ****... instead of building something to save us from the big mistakes of the latest 3, 5 & 7 series... they make this 5GT and 3GT... WTF is going on ???

There is just a new article about the upcoming A8/A7 in the german magazine "Auto,Motor&Sport". They presented some details about the new MMI system in both cars. It will use a kind of touch pad near the controller. The navigation system will get an update with Nvidia-grapics processor for 3D-builings, landscapes with real shadows etc. Sounds very interesting.

Why are the postponing the models? So if they are production-ready, putting it in the fridge and take it out a year later, wouldn't that kinda be a disadvantage to the designs, technologies, and whatever else considered "new" and might not be so new a year later?

The problem is that luxury cars like an A7 won`t have it easy on the market at the moment, because of the financial criss. the longer it can postpond the better. i think late 2010 is a good thing.

oh yeah, the white dash looks really lovely but in the production model it's probably gonna be toned down to dark brown or black... because white won't be good when you try to see through the windscreen on a sunny day.

I think that the A7 Design Sketch at the top of the article has more to do with the A5 Sportback. The top of the windscreen header rail forwards to the front of the car, the front wheel arch haunch, the rear quarter light and the rear lights are pure A5 - and match the Audi media leak of the rear of the A5. The A7 has distinctly different fetures to the sketch, and concept car will be based on the real A7 body shell with jewel additions to add a concept feel......
