Ferrari to confirm Alonso at Monza - report

September 11 2009 could be the date on which Fernando Alonso is revealed as a Ferrari driver for the next five formula one seasons.

The Spanish newspaper Diario AS claims that the sport's best-known secret may already be scheduled for official confirmation on the Friday of the Italian grand prix at Monza.

The report believes Ferrari has not decided which of the team's contracted 2010 drivers, Felipe Massa or Kimi Raikkonen, will be ushered aside to make room for the former double world champion, who currently races for Renault.

AS said Ferrari intends to hold its major end-of-season event at Valencia in November, not only to welcome Alonso, 27, to the team, but also its new 2010 Spanish sponsor Santander.

The report said Alonso could be the "surprise guest" at the event, but would have to wear casual clothes because of his Renault contract through December 31.

These trashy European sports magazines are not exactly reliable sources of information. The stories are usually based on hear-say and the fantasies of the writers.

You know, Ferrari isn't a great place to be for Alonso after all. Massa drives for the title as well as Kimi. Neither Kimi nor Massa wouldn't be a lieutenant for Alonso, and a team with 2 main drivers is quite difficult to maintain. Look at McLaren two seasons ago. It will be very interesting to see, but let's see if Alonso gets to Ferrari first...

I agree with you. Alanso doesn't deserve FERRARI any more.

I think the opposite. Ferrari doesn't deserve Alonso. Alonso is a better driver than either Massa or Kimi. Afterall, they both had their go at Ferrari but they are struggling at the moment. A driver is someone who can drive beyond the capacity of the car and this is exactly what Alonso is doing at Renault

Umm, Ferrari is struggling because the car is not as good as the Red Bull and Brawn cars are. Not because of the drivers. AND if you look at last season, where was your oh-so-great Alonso? He wasn't fighting for the championship. Massa was. We do have something in common though. Neither of us wants Alonso to drive the Ferrari next year. Let's hope he doesn't.

i think massa is super overrated and kimi's success depends on what happens in the first 4 or 5 corners. if he doesnt get it right, he will more then happily sit in 13th for 60odd laps! Alonso pushes and has fantastic control, who can say he doesnt after watching him wrestle that car in silverstone. not to mention he was pretty much forgotten last year and won a few! I do have to agree on a point is that Ferrari work well with a No1 and 2 driver. Massa has played this part in the past, he will do well to keep up with alonso i think

It's kind of academic whether Kimi or Massa goes, as the one that doesn't get pushed is unlikely to want to play rear gunner to Alonso. Number 2 at Ferrari is always a role in someone else's shadow.

I think Alonso and Hamilton are the best drivers recently. They're the same like MS somehow. That's why they can't be in one team together. Would love to see Alonso in Ferrari next season. This season is the suckest one Ive seen since 2004.

Kimi is in the Top 10 of most major records in F1. In a lot of races he posts a fastest lap, even in a bad car. If he could just stay off the source he could be the greatest ever.
