BMW has dropped four new teaser photos of the new BMW X1.  The four photos turned up on the Facebook page dedicated to the vehicle.

The decision to continue with the tease campaign is somewhat unusual since virtually uncovered photos of the BMW X1 have already turned up during Nurburgring testing.  Further, BMW showed off X1 prototypes during a p.r. event in Mallorca, Spain, earlier this month.  Still, it is nice to see uncovered shots of the rear light cluster and the engine start button.

Several petrol and diesel engine choices on the X1 guarantees the SAV will get up to 204 hp.  The xDrive all-wheel drive system will be available from launch, while the rear-wheel drive unit -dubbed sDrive- should be up for purchase a little later.

After plenty of spy pictures and official teaser images and videos the X1 will finally make a splash into the European market this autumn. Power will come from petrol and turbo diesel engines with horsepower figures of up to 204.

You'll be able to see the full reveal of the BMW X1 when the SAV takes a bow at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September.

Better than the ML? Are you nuts? I'm on my 2nd ML, the first was a 2008 ML63 AMG and I just recently bought a 2009 ML63 AMG. The body looks hot, aggressive, stylish and classic from every angle. This X1 looks horrible, and I actually take a little offense even having an X1 compared to my ML :)

Deutsch100 : everyone have different taste. If you think your ML looks better as it targets the old age market, then it's fine. But I like the X1 and it is perfect for the youth market... perfect for me. The Merc badge just doesn't suit my style, I'm not old yet.

I think that the tail light by itself is ugly, but i think that in the scheme of things itll turn out to be a good looking car.

What's the point of showing us snap shots of nice metal colour pictures most of the car's bottom part is cheap black plastic as ugly as the first X3??? That nice silver plate near the tailpipe will not be standard and they'll charge customers a fortune just to make this ugly car look a bit more premium. Bear in mind that this car's cheap looks look even less premium than a Toyota! Just you wait and see the standard spec car, just like the ones in spy - just ugly cheap bs looks that you would expect from Tata. Interior is nice though. But the exterior will put me off buying this car, even if I would have spec'ed it up with more money myself to get a more premium look, I wouldn't buy it as the cheap look that everyone else will be buying will spoil the image of the X1 in everone else's mind including mine.... just like the 1 hatch and X3 have done.

Who cares what it looks like. I thought this website was for car guys, not fashion experts. "Ooooo, this paint color really brings out my eyes and I love the low roof line, it makes my face look less fat." Uhgg.

All I can say is it looks much better than the current X3.

Totally agree.Much better than the boring X3.An X1 looks nice to be honest. The only thing that bothers me is the price - it'll be a bit much for such a car.

2009 Ugliest Car Award goes to... the BMW X1... wait a minute, the BMW 7 series, no, the 5 Series GT... Looks like we've got a triple tie here. Congraduations BMW, there will be blind people buying your cars no matter how hideous they'll look!

I think BMW will likely offer the xDrive28i and xDrive23d variants for the USA market, both matched to the six-speed automatic from the BMW 3-Series models.

I think a word other than 'teaser' should be used. A bastardisation of the term :)
