Lamborghini Gallardo LP550-2

Lamborghini is said to be undertaking a rear-wheel-drive project by the name of Gallardo LP550-2. If these leaked pictures show that car then fans of the bull are in for a real treat. The LP550-2 as the designation suggests, is built on a RWD system instead of Lambo's usual AWD layout.

Power comes from the 5.2-litre normally aspirated V10 engine but has been detuned to make 550hp (405kW) and not 560hp (412kW) like the LP560-4. A 6-speed manual gearbox comes standard. Don't let that minor power cut dissuade you from forming high opinions of the car though; it has shed 30kg (66 lbs) and dispatches the 0 - 100km/h sprint in 3.9 seconds.

Those 30kgs lost are matched with a 10% price cut and a limited run of 250 units worldwide. A total of eight exterior colours will have owners salivating over which one to choose. Included with those is a special white livery.

An AWD Italian bull rushing over 500 stallions from under the bonnet is no child's play at full glory. One with no AWD safety net is something only a few should attempt to play with.

Fab car. I think it would look better in bright yellow, traditional Lambo colour. Still, one of the best supercars on the street.

Edit: Wait, it is 2wd?! That just adds to this car's excitment! =D

This is the car Lambo should have built from the beginning. It seems like a proper supercar now. And i like it even more when i see manual gearboxes instead of all these e-gear, DKG, DSG, etc.

what is previous version? it is just 2 wheel drive gallardo which is supposed to give more fun when driving it, it's not any newer gallardo.

Awesome! Now do the Murcielago and give us a 'proper' RWD SportVeloce, the way you know it's meant to be.

Agree entirely, I just wish all Lambo are RWD, so it will scare most of its owners

but why they detuned the engine?

Agreed on all counts. Marketing is everything at this level and a detuned engine won't win it extra kudos.

I also wish they'd done this on the Murcielago SV.

Very interesting car. I wonder which is going to be faster and better to drive, this car or its direct upcoming competitor Ferrari F450. Both will be RWD of course.

they detuned it so it won't be any faster than a LP560, because it's a little bit lighter. And second thing - the news name. So it won't be mistaken with LP560 (vs LP550).

Weird logic. Why shouldn't it be faster than a LP560? This sounds like you guessing rather than an official line, because it looks too tough to defend.

lol, if it had as many hp as the LP560 it would be faster, cause it is a bit lighter. How tough to understand is that?

Liking it, and wish they would make a RWD LP670 Murcie, but why the detune? So they can do away with some cooling equipment to save weight or what?

"0 - 100km/h sprint in 3.9 seconds"

The heavier 560-4 do it in 3.8 or even less

AWD is a bit of help there ...

yes but I doubt it will be as good and as fast to drive as the upcoming Ferrari F450 (with rumored 500hp+ RWD). And this car is going to be more expensive.

i think this one will be faster than the f450 because the 560 with AWD is faster than the lp640 so this one will be faster than the normal 560 so i think yea it will be faster than the f450

Why has it 10 hp less?
