The 2010 Chevrolet Spark was finally unveiled at the 2009 Geneva Motor Show after General Motors reneged on a promise to show it at the North American International Auto Show two months earlier. These are the first pictures of the car out in the open. While the badges say Daewoo Matiz, the car is definitely the next Spark.

GM still uses the Daewoo Matiz name in some markets like India and South Korea but the world at large knows it as the Spark. Inspired by the Beat Concept car of 2007 the production Spark is a milder version but has kept most styling similarities intact. The rear for instance is very much Beat but has been watered down. The brake lights are in the same cluster as the indicator lights.

The interior bears a lot of resemblance with the concept in places like the steering wheel and the instrument constellate which is attached to the wheel. That says the steering wheel column could be adjustable.

It is to be powered by a 1.0-litre engine with 66hp (49kW) and a 1.2-litre petrol with 78hp (57kw). The fitted transmission is a 5-speed manual which helps to get the car from 0 - 100km/h in a leisurely 12.4 seconds.

I'm guessing the European market will get this as a Chevy, but a Matiz (as now) or Spark?

It's not bad actually, if a bit contrived. I'm seeing bits of Suzuki Splash/Ritz and Hyundai i20 on the front and back ends. And those black bits on the headlights look like panel gaps; not pretty. The interior looks like a bit comical though. Especially the red shiny plastic and that hideous speedo-rev box thing. I hope they fix it for the Chevy-badged version.

Oh, and the current car is called the Chevy Spark in India too. Has been for about 3-4 years now.

I'm dissapointed because I was really looking forward to this car...not that I was going to buy one...but because the Matiz is the most inexpensive new car sold here in Korea and I'd be seeing a lot of these buzzing around being driven as commercial vehicles and novice motorists...(BTW:there is a law here in Korea that says if this is your first car and you are a female, you need to stick fuzzy dolls on the dash and windows and cover the steering wheel with Hello Kitty wheel skins...or atleast it seems like there is a law like that)

For a compact car it looks too busy. There are too many lines and creases going everywhere. I hope that is a test/development because I've seen tricycles with better wheels than that!

But then again the hubcap is going to crack and fall off during parking accidents anyways so why bother?

India doesnt have Daewoo at all.. let alone Matiz.. the current generation Matiz or Spark.. is now sold as Chevy Spark in India..

you gotta be kidding me... the instrument panel is an absolute joke... that display thing looks like it came from a 90s stereo.

and the gigantic headlights look like it's been taken from a space ship...

and lastly the squared-off bonnet looks like it came from a washing machine.

This car is not the same class as Mazda2, Honda Jazz or Hyundai i20. Being listed cars is segment B. Matiz should be compared with Suzuki Splash, Fiat Panda, Toyota Aygo, Renault Twingo, VW Fox etc. In my mind this new Matiz has much better look both inside and out than all its competitors. Excellent job by Koreans! Keep that way :)

good looking car. Especially headlights design. But it's nothing without alloy wheels. I think 15/16' is enought.

quite ugly, but at least someone came up with a city car for the boys... i mean, for those who like masculine looks on their cars. i'd still go for a cute 500, hands down.

Blah, looks ugly. The Suzuki Spalsh and Vauxhall Agila use the same platform, right? So why would anyone go for this when there are better looking versions?

I think the drab colour is what lets this car down in these pics. At least it is different!

i am sooo so so disapointed in this car , when the concept was originally released , it was stunning ....pretty good looking , with nice proportions ..but of corse as with every gm future conept the gm accountant (mister stingy as i call him) had to cut drastic costs to get this car on the road .. crappy alloy rims , horrible cheap gm bits like the wing mirrors) and little essence of the original concept ....IM TAKING A 500
