2010 Saab 9-5 sedan computer rendering

Do these images actually show official manufacturer renderings of the 2010 Saab 9-5 sedan and 9-5 wagon?  Two different blogs seem to think so.

Both Autoblog.nl and Saabunited.com believe that the source of these images is Saab itself.  We're not so sure.  The images are far from perfect (is that a scratch on the front bumper of the 9-5 sedan?), showing two drawings that need some finishing touches.  Most recently, the wagon was seen under a tight-fitting cloth cover teasing us with an idea of what the vehicle will look like.

Comparing these pictures with the rendering, we think we can spot a few differences.  The rendering does not appear to have a steep enough angle just over the rear headlights.  Rigidity looks to be key in the back end of the covered up car, as opposed to the smoothness seen in the drawing.  Also, the rendering shows a roofline that plunges down at the back quite a bit more than the concealed 9-5 wagon, which shows a flatter roof.

However, what the artist seems to have been accurate on is the overall shape of the front bumper, including headlight placement, air intakes, grille shape, and fog lght location.  Also, the wheels appear to be fairly close in design to what Saab has included on their teaser car.

If the wagon looks remotely similar to this drawing, it could definitely be a hit for the Swedish automaker.

The colour code for "pine green metallic" gives us a hint on SAAB's new strategy to save the brand.

I'm sorry, but that is just ugly. What was the designer sniffing when he thought this was a good idea? Pretty much every other car in its class is better looking. This is a reason why Saab is dying. People will rather buy A4's, 3 series's, C-classes etc.

The Saab 900 was better looking and that was ugly. This wont save them. The wagon looks as if its shrunk. Isnt the point of a wagon that you want the space to fill the boot with crap? Nothing can go inte the trunk of this one. Saabs going the wrong way. Why save them..

I think that is one hot design, full of scandinavian design references, quirky and sporty, as a Saab should've been all along.

Nice rendering on the wagon. This is the stuff dreams are made of! I am so encouraged by manufacturers who are shifting from SUVs to sleeker and smaller vehicles like wagons (9-5, 5er & E-Class Touring, Caddy CLS Wagon) and upscale hatchbacks (A5 & A7 SportBacks and the over-the-top Panamera). Although the industry is currently suffering, the strong and smart will survive and give us car guys stuff we really want to DRIVE!

This looks like a Photoshopped A6.

I have high hopes for the 9-5. SAAN needs to return to its roots rather than becoming a slave to chasing Audi and BMW. The last thing we need is another German clone.

that front bar looks like the love child of a Hyundai elantra and a Chrysler seabring... this is not good... it looks as though its been designed for america, and the rest of the world will just have to live with it.. terribly blunt styling is a trait for american cars... it frustrates me!

The 9-5 will be another weird Saab design on a generic GM platform. It reminds me of the new Jaguar XF, a luxury car designed by Ford which ends up looking like a luxury package for the Ford Mondeo. Most likely designed by Americans trying to be Swedish on a tight value-engineering budget and universal platform. A niche car should be unique from the ground up.

honestly, it looks like a cross over of an audi and a subaru, still though.... not very appealing to the eye. im curious to see the specs of this car on paper before i give my final verdict.

Good but too late, the ship has sailed. SAABenig might make the swedish maker live a little longer but I think it will become more of a niche car company rather than a mass production company.
