Mosley on warpath, FOTA breakaway back on menu

Far from peace in our time, furious Max Mosley on Friday suggested FOTA's plans for a breakaway series may be back on.

On Wednesday in Paris, FOTA chairman Luca di Montezemolo sat with the FIA president as well as Bernie Ecclestone as they announced an agreement had been reached to move on after weeks and months of bitter feuding.

But Mosley interpreted the subsequent media coverage of the agreement as manipulated by Montezemolo and the eight rebel teams, keen to portray the deal as a successful coup that had resulted in victory as well as his head.

The 69-year-old wrote a letter to Ferrari's Montezemolo demanding a retraction and apology, but on Thursday the Italian instead issued a backhanded compliment by thanking Mosley "for his decision to leave the FIA in October".

Mosley, now openly rethinking his retirement, is reportedly also furious at FOTA vice-chairman John Howett's appeal to the World Motor Sport Council that it elect an "independent" president to succeed the incumbent.

He has now written another letter to the FIA member clubs, in which Mosley alludes to Howett's comments that "concern me greatly" and to Montezemolo who "did not keep his part of the bargain".

"We must continue to defend the independence of the FIA, even if this leads to difficulties in the sport," Mosley wrote.

He said the aftermath of the agreement had become "intolerable" and warns that, despite this week's declaration of peace, formula one now faces another "difficult period".

"This may well result in short-term problems in formula one," added Mosley. "It is possible FOTA will set up an independent series. The championship has had difficult times in the past, and no doubt will again in the future."

He accuses FOTA as being a body with "no sporting ethics" and "under the control" of the car manufacturing industry "we have constantly to monitor".

Even more provocatively, Mosley revealed that one manufacturer team lobbied him to ignore the processes of the Court of Appeal and simply declare 'double diffusers' illegal earlier this year.

He also said that when the FIA championed the road car safety standards system Euro NCAP, "one of the major manufacturers threatened to quit formula one" in protest.

Fair points from Max though, the F1 teams don't run the FIA, or control it. The member clubs control it. It's not for the manufacturers to say what happens. Especially as they have no real commitment to F1, as has been proved by Honda sodding off and many of the rest contemplating doing the same. Seperately, if they don't like how F1 is run then they should buy it and put the money up to show they can do it better.

Bernie owns commercial rights to F1, and I think Max should just go and F*** him self. Sure he's helped in making F1 safer (Last death was in 94 the Great Senna), but enough is enough. I went from watching every single practice, qualifying and race to not watch F1 at all, and its all thanks to the old fart Max.

Achtung Max, Stop worrying about your reputation, you have nothing left to protect. You are known as Nazi pervert who has to buy his women. You are universally held to be responsible for turning F1 into a snoozefest. You can not change this perception no matter how much attention you draw on yourself. Fair or not, even if you find the cure to all cancers and economic woes you will still go down in history as the Nazi prostitute man who unsuccessfully tried to dictate his will on F1. For now this game is over. Be still for a few years and maybe you can take a stab at patching up your name.

geez so Max is upset that this autoracing series involves car manufacturers trying to have input? What dumba$$ this guy is. I suggest that instead of a breakaway series the manufacturers simply switch to the Lemans series for a year or two. It will be less expensive and when formula 1 becomes worthless, which should not take long, they can swoop in and buy it.

OK this is all a load of s*%t I have just watched one of the all time great motor racing spectacle's of all time .V. rossi winning his 100th race and I realised what was wrong with f1. Question? who is the president of the FIM . Answer who gives a s%^t the racing comes down to who is the best rider, 10% the best team. Not who makes the most money. Cough cough thats you bernie and max you parasites. you don't give a s%*t about motorsport all you care about is your ego and $$$$$$$$$$ . I don't give a rats about who can spend the most, I don't care who bid the most to hold a race. I care about the passion of racing. The team and rider that is willing to work the hardest to be champions. FIA has lost their passion, commercial rights holders have lost their passion. I 'am not stupid I know motorsports needs to make MONEY ,But the racing needs to come first.

Mosley's intent is to obviously ensure he is remembered in F1. Anything good will be overshadowed by the lack of intelligence exercised in the FOTA saga........time to go....."Max Mosley".

I'm starting to look at this in a different light. If this causes FOTA to break away, Mosley may just be the best thing to happen to F1 in the last 15 years or so. Think about it, because of his hard-headedness, we may see an altogether new, more accessible and more fan-friendly top tier of motorsport being born. One without the lopsided governance of Mosley nor the greed of Ecclestone. And it's all thanks to Mosley...
