The candidates for 2010's North American Car and Truck of the Year award have been announced.
On the car side, BMW gained three nominations for the Z4, 330d, and 5-Series GranTurismo. Ford also garnered a trio of nominations for the new Fusion, Mustang, and redesigned Taurus. Kia's new Forte and Soul were also awarded nominations as were Nissan's Cube and 370Z.
Other candidates include the Audi S4, Buick's redesigned LaCrosse, Chevrolet's sexy Camaro, Cadillac's new CTS Sport Wagon, Honda's fuel-efficient Insight, Hyundai's Genesis Coupe, Lexus' HS 250h, Lotus' new Evora, the Mazda3, Mercedes' redesigned E-Class, Porsche's Panamera, Subaru's redesigned Legacy, Suzuki's upcoming Kizashi, Toyota's third generation Prius, and Volkswagen's new Golf.
On the truck side, nominees include Acura's ZDX crossover, BMW's X5 xDrive35d, Cadillac's redesigned SRX, the Chevrolet Equinox, Ford's business-oriented Transit Connect, GMC's Terrain, Honda's upcoming Crosstour (Accord-based crossover), Land Rover's LR4, Lincoln's massive MKT, Subaru's new Outback, Toyota's 4Runner, and Volvo's new XC60 crossover.
This massive list - echoed in yesterday's announcement of the 2010 European Car of the Year Award nominees - will be reduced as successive rounds of voting separate the wheat from the chaff. The final winners will be announced at the North American International Auto Show in January.
Comments
by the way, i don't see a point today for the 'best truck' category. none of the nominated vehicles are actual trucks, being actually car based crossovers.
i mean... why would a subaru outback compete in a different league than, say, an audi a4 avant quattro?
Car: Lotus Evora
Truck: Er, I'm not a fan of any of those. =/ I'll go with the Subaru then.
