Those of you who constantly drive around large groups will be interested in these spy shots of the upcoming Volkswagen T5 facelift. Rumor has it that the van will receive a new bi-turbo common rail diesel engine delivering 220 horsepower. This will replace the currently used 2.5-liter diesel five-cylinder.
Additional engine choices could include both 1.6- and 2.0-liter diesels, and a 1.4-liter petrol TSI. VW may make a DSG transmission an available option.
With the new facelift, we should see a vehicle with a bit more expression. Playing off the recently released Volkswagen Golf Mk6, the van should have a happier front fascia to give it a more distinct VW look. The changes to the T5 could decrease the overall weight by as much as 150 kilos. Some interior upgrades should also be included, depending on the vehicle's configuration. Amongst these is a touch-screen sat-nav.
The six-year old medium-sized transport vehicle can be configured as either a passenger van, flatbed truck, delivery van, taxi, or emergency vehicle. The facelifted Volkswagen T5 should get a Frankfurt debut in September.
