Ferrari's upcoming F450 will soon be replacing the ageing F430. Over recent months and weeks spy pictures of the car in mule form have appeared. There have also been renderings posted and even the car's roaring sound has been heard at Ferrari's Fiorano test track.

Now new spy pictures of the F450 completely undisguised have surfaced. They show a number of components including the suspension, the braking system, the new V8 engine and some interior. From these pictures it might not look quite as attractive as one would expect but when it all comes together all these bits will form another important part of history for the Scuderia.

Some details of the F450 are already out in the public domain. These include the engine's power which will tip over the 500hp (368kw) mark thanks to the 4.5-litre V8 engine. Ferrari will employ some F1-inspired components such as a 7-speed transmission, a KERS-like energy recovery system, handling-assisting software and next-generation traction control.

At launch the F450 will only feature a hard top, with the Spider version arriving about 18 months later. There may be a hybrid version introduced as well since Ferrari has admitted to working on such a system. A public debut of the F450 is likely to happen at the Los Angeles Auto Show.

I didn't think a KERS style system was going to arrive until the Enzo replacement/mille chille derived car.

It looks abused, and expensive, just gimme that tasty Supra, GT-R or even the ZR-1 or Camaro SS.

I totally agree with the guy who says it looks like a Zonda, cos it bascially is!

I saw the side profile and went WOW! It already looks better than the F430.

Im loving the aggressively contoured flanks with the line diving below the doorhandle and the other appearing above it. Also, the flying buttresses on the 599 GTB Fiorano are one of my favourite styling features on that car and it's great to see them on the F450.

The F430 is one of my favourite cars of all time so for me, and many others, this F450 has a lot to live up to. So far... fantastic.

I am wondering if these prototypes were meant to be found. After all, finding one prototype uncovered is very rare but three? Manufacturers are publishing 'spy' shots these days so perhaps Ferrari took it a step further by leaving prototypes teasing the basic styling without giving everything away. Im probably way off in my thinking!

From the high pressure fuel rails, it seems that the F450 is going to use gasoline direct injection, just like the California. Glad to see GDI expanding to supercars... :-)

I had read an article talking about this exactly. At the time Ferrari R&D was working frantically to get their prototype GDI engines to spin faster. I guess they succeeded cause this is definately a DI engine. Did you also notice the intricacies of the bypass valves in the exhaust?

As I replied to mtaddi, they look to me like exhaust silencer bypass valves. Ferrari and other carmakers (i.e. Audi) have been using them for some time now

no one realizes that this car is turboed...... wow. There are pictures of the wastegates!!!!!

I dont't think they are wastegates. They look more like exhaust silencer bypass valves. In order to comply with the noise emission regulations, these valves stay shut at low rpms (specifically, in the rpm range where the noise emission test is conducted), forcing the entire exhaust gas flow through the silencer. In higher rpms, these valves open, allowing the exhaust gas to bypass the silencer, thus improving performance-and making one hell of a noise!!! :-)

man about the "3" cars... I think it is only one taht was at some kind of paint shop. At this moment no one has yet noticed that the light blue car is crashed, particularly noticeable in pic # 10(passenger side roof and doorsill). The yellow is likely to be some primer and red the final color. Though the red car still appears to have some dents and misalignments. It is possible like you said that this was meant to be found.

This car were probably Crash-Test Cars...

Aston Martin had pictures of Vanquishs like this that were only revealed when the DBS came out!

Some of the pictures look like as if they were photoshopped. It says "Farrari" on the engine in this pic:

And look at the end of the engine cover and the frame in this pic:

exhaust bypass valves are housed in the muffler an look like butterfly valves. i have a wastegate in my car (a tial), and it is the exact same as in the photos.

Your wastegate and these bypass valves are both controlled by vacuum servos. You can put a vac servo on just about anything you want to control with available engine vacuum.

From what I see, the valves ARE located on the exhaust mufflers. The muffler mounts are visible, painted in red.

EH?
