Ford Prepping Kuga Coupe?

All new Ford Kuga

From out of nowhere comes this reporting claiming that Ford is readying a Ford Kuga coupe.  The magazine suggests -without a source- that Ford could be planning both two-wheel drive and four-wheel drive versions of a three-door Kuga, to be introduced sometime in 2011.

The source is showing off interesting-looking renderings of the sport activity vehicle with a "sloping roofline" and a look inspired by the Ford Fiesta.  Styling lines are meant to remind us of the Ford Iosis X concept seen during the 2006 Paris Motor Show.  Looking at old renderings of the Iosis X makes it seem like the Auto Express artist lifted the entire front end from that vehicle.  The artist added large alloy wheels, raising the vehicle off the ground in similar fashion to the Iosis X.  By basing the renderings off the Iosis series of concepts, Auto Express has digitally built a car that is easily distinguished from the Kuga SUV (seen above).

As a budget priced vehicle, the Ford Kuga Coupe could be a good entry-level choice for those looking to purchase an SAV.  If produced, the vehicle could get a 1.6-liter turbo petrol with up to 180 horsepower.  This engine would be a newcomer appearing alongside the turbocharged, direct-injection EcoBoost petrol units.  Two turbodiesel units, including a 128 hp 1.6-liter and a 197hp 2.0-liter, could also make it on the car.  The 2.0-liter model may also be made as a 168hp version.

Speculation has a six-speed manual or Powershift twin-clutch automatic transmission offered for the car.  Other features would include a new sat-nav unit, rearward facing camera, Bluetooth, panoramic glass roof (not seen in the renderings), and start-stop technology.  You can visit Auto Express to see their drawings.

The Auto Express drawings are really good, way better then the ugly X6, but you can't trust them.

In 2005, I interviewed for a job at Ford Dunton, it was the best interview ever ! Nearly 2 hours talking cars. Cool ! I asked them their opinion of the British Mags. They inferred that Auto Express wasn't worth the paper it was printed on because they continually made things up and it made them laugh at how the renderings weren't what was in their studios.

A cheap SUV Coupe would be the perfect douche-mobile for the financially impaired douche bag! You know, the one that can't afford the X6, X3 or even the entry level X1 because his toothpick factory went bankrupt when he decided swarovski covered toothpicks are the way to go! He realized he was wrong so now he's got another loan from the bank to start selling swarovski covered glass lenses and he's got just enough extra money to buy a cheapo cross-over so he can go to that fancy cafe with the 10 euro coffee without his richer, more douchebaggy friends making fun of him...

personally i dislike SUVs. they are so compromised in so many ways i don't understand why people would buy them. however, i DO respect people's free choice to own one, and which one they can afford isn't something to make fun of. they may well like it for the high ground clearance and good visibility, or the space or whatever else. and whilst i probably would never own one, i don't really think you have a right to critisise people who would. and making fun of people who buy a Ford and assuming it's because they couldn't afford something else is quite childish.

Like Clarkson use to say, you have to be a cock to be an X6 driver, still it's a good thing that the cocks left the M3 alone, and migrated to X6 and to Audi.

THe ford kuga is about the most ugly suv, if you can call it one. It looks more like a higher hatchback, it has no bonnet at all and the stilling is worse than the allready ugly focus. MAny people say that the fords in europe are better than the ones in america. The new fords from america, like the new taurus and mustang have propper quality too and the taurus looks way better than the mondeo

Why does everyone try so hard with the "me too" vehicles? Most of us the US would just be happy with a plain old Kuga. It's so much better looking that the American Escape/Mariner. I'm not a huge fan of crossovers but even I would have to go look at a Kuga if sold here.

I like the Kuga a lot and Im no fan of cute utes or any other SUV. I remember the Isuzu Vehicross and I have often wondered who would venture back into the two door SUV business. I think the Kuga would look good in a two door variant.

@ politz, this can be the first of the poor man's X6 models. lots of people like the X6 and can't afford it, i think there is a market for this kind of cars ...or CUVs, SUVs, WUVS.
