For that money you can get a 911 GT2 and your prestige factor would be at the maximum, but the Corvette offers the masculinity of a Harley V-Rod.

too much "in your face" masculinity can be a sign of overcompensating for some things ;)

Since when is the Vette ZR1 too much "in your face" masculinity?
By the way, for the price I get a GT2, I can get a ZR1 and a Caddy CTS-V or a Mercedes E Class.

Does it bother anyone else that the roof doesn't match the body color? I know I know its carbon fiber and it has a special coating etc etc, but it just looks out of place not matching the car. Looking back to back, I think that a yellow Z06 looks much better than a yellow ZR1. For some reason it looks ok with the blue, but IF I could afford one of these I think I'd go with grey so that the roof somewhat matches.

Those disgusting little lights on the sides of the front and rear bumber keep ruining every good american design.

archytype you cant get a gt2 for 107000$, the zr1 is great but i would rather have a GTR or M3 you know something with better build quality than the corvette.
June 19, 2009 12:31 am
I am a Euro car guy all the way, but if I had to buy american it would be a Corvette. They are quality built, unlike the rest of the GM gang. That's why, if GM ever does go under, Corvette would be the only car to live on.

Having driven this car I can tell you this- it's unstoppable. I puts your driving to test. I can easily see people dying in this. The thing with this car is the power is hard to control. The GT-R comparison is valid because of how easy that car is to drive. 100k buys you a lot nicer cars. I'd get a Carrera over this. Anybody who's driven a 911 and drives this, knows what I'm talking about. ZR1 is a beast around the Nurburgring in the hands of the best drivers, but put Joe-Schmoe behind the wheel and see that time drop to 20 min.
June 19, 2009 3:20 am
thats probably why they gave it this new traction control system.

I've also driven both, but I would kill myself if I bought the 911 over the ZR1. Maybe it's because I've driven the 911 cabrio, not the coupe, but I love the way the ZR1 scares you out of your pants when you put your foot down. I also think the ZR1 looks much better than the 911. Moreover, for the car that it is it's relatively comfortable (RELATIVELY), not to say that the 911 isn't. The interior though is not so nice. I wish they could find that spot where it's simple yet aesthetically pleasing. I would pay an extra 10-Grand if they would just fix up the interior. However, I'll grant you that there is a substantial learning curve for this car, but once you get some practice, it is absolutely phenomenal. The cheap interior is a tiny price to pay for the amount of car you get. I even think that compared to similar performing cars, it's relatively inexpensive. When you pit it against a Scuderia or a GT2, you're up 80grand and more for similar. The GTR has it beat in price to capability ratio, but I don't think the GTR is as pretty. On that basis, I take the ZR1, in blue.

catastrophic interior..looks like something picked up from a ford escort.
June 19, 2009 6:40 am
true, i don't get why Americans are so stubborn with those ugly interiors. GM tries to get rid of the "pimp mobile", "redneck Ferrari" image the Corvette has in the rest of the world but they don't want to get rid of that cheap looking interior.
June 19, 2009 8:06 am
Well, it's not like GM has a lot of money to fix interior problems...
By the way, the Vette ZR1 costs one third the price of its Ferrari counterpart. So the "redneck Ferrari" thing is either an unintended compliment or an insult from someone who does not know what they're talking about.

If they give the interior a good upgrade, like in the second cadillac cts this is my all time favorite car
June 19, 2009 10:05 am
They should bump up the price by 10g more and fix the interior. But this is my favorite car of all time.
June 19, 2009 6:39 pm
You have to wait for the C7 for that. Witch will probably come in 2012.
June 20, 2009 4:04 pm
HEMI426 and Dbehmoaras you guys have to be kidding, how can this pathetic piece of "engineering" if you can call it that be your favourite car of all time? McLaren F1, Enzo, CGT, McLaren SLR, Veyron, Dauer 962. If someone handed me this car id sell it right away that second and buy a 1997 963 Turbo in mint condition. If i had to buy a new car i would go for a 911 Turbo or GT-R, simply because this is not and will NEVER be a daily driver. And why is there a bloody cup holder right up against the shifter, like yes lets spill our drink in our 107k car while shifting into 6th...other than the engine this car is a catastrophic failure, simply because of what it could of been if they were just a little bit more meticulous.
June 20, 2009 2:55 pm
HEMI426 and Dbehmoaras, don't let such an arrogant individual bully you, really. He is too prejudiced against American cars and his judgment is too impaired to even deliver an opinion regarding YOUR personal views. He thinks what goes against his opinions is inherently wrong but he doesn't realize everyone has the right to have different tastes.
Radmeister, but no one is going to take you seriously if you keep failing to recognize the fact that your views are not superior than anyone else's. Do you not realize that everyone has the right to consider whatever car they damn please their favorite?
June 20, 2009 8:31 pm
By the way, only "masterpieces of engineering" can be considered one's favorite car? Please! That's like saying only the prettiest, smartest, most perfect women are worth falling in love with. That's ludicrous.
June 20, 2009 8:45 pm
When you favour something it is a logical decision, a comparison backed by proof. Love is an emotional decision. If they had said love i would of not commented, but since stating that something is your favourite it must mean you compared it to other things in the same category and after a logical decision it came on top. And no i don't have anything against American cars, it just happens that they represent everything that i detest in this world, mass produced junk that is designed to fall appart to force you to buy a new car, to keep consumerism up, and people's ability to make their own decisions down. The worst part is that these cars if you can even call them that are not even at a lower price, GM and Ford have given up producing good quality vehicles since the 80s, why? Because they realized that the American public was so blindly loyal that they could create a piece of junk that would be useless after 5 years and people would still come back. No i do not hate American cars, i hate the idea behind American cars. I don't hate Toyotas and Hondas and some of them are made in the USA and Canada. Why are people so blind? Ok i get the patriotic part of it, but hey Toyota has plants in the US too, they employ Americans too, pay them just as well, have just as good benefits, sponsor programs for helping the environment, donate to school and charities just like Ford and GM, so at the end of the day what do you get for buying a Ford? You can proudly say "Because i am American, i blindly followed the mob and bought this inferior product to show my patriotism. I'm patriotic because i'm willing to take a metaphoric bullet for my country by buying this car" Where as the guy that bought a toyota has done more good for the USA and has a better car that will last him longer, and depreciate slower.
June 20, 2009 9:48 pm
WOW radmeister, your resentment towards ANYHTING american is very clear and in about every forum you make that shine through. i dont know about the other readers but i have been visiting (reading) this site for almost 2 1/2 years now, and i am very tired of your derogatory
comments about anything american, so what if almost every car america makes sucks, you don't have to be such a DICK! about it. just come out and say it, enough with the subterfuge, tell everyone that you despise america. i'm from america and i can spot a hater when i see one, and yeah and i know i'm about to get sooooo much harshness from everybody else for this comment but i don't mind. this has to be said.
June 20, 2009 10:09 pm
Being from America you must be used to haters by now, i think anyone outside your borders is a hater. Maybe i do have to be such a dick about it, maybe when dealing with ignorance the best way to make your point is to be blunt, that way the shock of your statements may open people's eyes. Some people may hate you for it, but some people may wake up to the harsh reality that hey maybe America or American is not the best, and all they really are is 300million people that have a high salary and are blind consumers. That is all about america has to offer to the world. And with the economy and their consumer powers going down their meaningfulness/importance in the world fades, and then they start some wars to prove that hey we still got it.
June 21, 2009 4:50 pm
To think again Radmeister.... I have a 1969 Chevrolet Corvette and she's still running like what's her name suppose to be. She's been alive for 40 years now but you said, American cars only survives for 5 years? My 1995 Dodge Grand Caravan ES didn't prove that. =]
