Rolls-Royce is already selling over 1,200 cars per year. From what reports say, this number will increase significantly over the next few years with the introduction of the Ghost. But the Ghost by itself will not be the only catalyst for the growth; more models based on the car are planned. More on that later.
For now it appears that while the broader public is virtually guaranteed a viewing at the Frankfurt Motor Show later this year, a few select customers are being flown in to Cannes in France to have a look at the finished product. This exclusive event is said to be taking place between the 2nd and 4th of July 2009.
Now, a bit about the extension of the Ghost brand. Rolls-Royce is going to exploit the planned popularity of its baby car by bringing to the market two more variants. A coupe and a soft-top convertible are on the cards for buyers looking for some sort of sporting/ poser appeal from their RR.
Ghost exterior designer Andreas Thurner told Autocar that "the Ghost was designed in a way to make other body styles. We have to build up a family for the Ghost just as we did for the Phantom."
However, continued Thurner, this will be the smallest Rolls in the lineup. "Any smaller and it would lack the presence, comfort, space and stance that we want," he said.
The 5.4m long Ghost has such an advanced air suspension system that it can even sense when a passenger moves from one side of the car to the other, and then makes adjustments accordingly. It uses a new turbocharged 6.6-litre V12 engine to produce over 373kW (507hp) and drive the rear wheels via an 8-speed ZF automatic gearbox.
