Effortless grace

Just days after catching a two-tone Rolls-Royce Ghost, our spy photographers have managed to get the first pictures of a prototype decked out in white. Although the photos don't provide any new details about the upcoming entry-level model, they show the Ghost in one of the brand's most popular colors.

Commonly referred to as the "baby" Rolls-Royce, the 2010 Ghost is actually a massive car as it measures 5399mm (212.6 inches) in length, 3295mm (129.7 inches) in wheelbase, 1948mm (76.7 inches) in width, and 1550mm (61 inches) in height.

Power comes from a new 6.6-liter turbocharged V12 engine with more than 500 bhp. The engine is connected to an eight-speed ZF gearbox which was tuned to deliver unparalleled shift comfort and responsiveness. In order to keep this beast under control, Rolls-Royce has equipped the Ghost with an advanced air suspension system that offers dynamic handling while preserving a luxurious ride quality.

The Ghost will be officially unveiled at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September, with production beginning shortly thereafter.

When I first saw the concept car of this I thought it was good looking, but now it keeps getting uglier

I thought most new Peformance/luxury cars look better in white. the Ghost in white is a big no-no! Oh and I see they kept the same plastic grill....

Do you seriously think that is the finished grille? Look at it closely. The RR badge is covered in the same black plastic too. The grille is "disguised" hence the "spied" in the article title.

Power comes from a new 6.6-liter turbocharged V12 engine with more than 500 bhp.... yeaaahh, 544, and 750 nm of torque. thats just like the 7 bimmer. weeeeeeekkkkk engine. why is it .6 of a litre larger and it produces the same amount of power/torque? couldnt bmw use the exact engine, spare themselves the shame....and some fuel. again....wwweeeekkkk!!!!!

well God, what's to know about RR? enlighten me. dude... i havent said anything about rolls, directly if you have noticed....or havent. i said, more or less, about bmw. it's not that i dont like rr. but if i want a grandpa's car, id coose a bentley. but this is irelevant (even though bentley have better designs than rr).. and yes, as roberob put it, old rr looked better. he is, as they say a "traditionalist". and in some extent, i too like the older rr's better.

How do you know how much torque there is or HP? They could have designed it to have the same HP but used that extra displacement to create more low end torque as this thing weighs as much as a whale. Just like the S600 and Maybach share the same block, but they are very different engines.

It looks ugly! even the rear looks like a cheap Korean car! and the grill looks plasticy either! I prefer to save my money and buy an S600 over this.

"you don't know anything about Rolls Royce , do you ?" What's to know? All he has to do is stick his head up his own arse and that pretty much sums the type of person that purchases this over price & over-hyped pos (yes, I said that!). Talk about a wallflower. I'd rather put a lazy boy chair in the back of a pickup truck! OK, maybe not but considering what else you could buy for the money it still leaves me with this question: WHY? I like the older (by that, I mean really old) RR designs but as of recently, or past 30 years, could they've at least let the look of the car match the price? You know, it's about time someone told them that you can only eat and dress so well.

Your argument is so weak!! - So you like old school Rolls design and those are OK- but any new Rolls are pompous? Guy, Rolls has ALWAYS been for the pompous. Back in the 1920s a Rolls cost the same as it does today if not MORE (if you adjust the money accordingly with the time period). You talk like a Rolls owner, which you're not, and probably has never seen a Phantom. I dare you not to drool! Last week in Miami Beach I spotted a Phantom all blacked out with tasteful rims (not bling) that thing was completely worth $350,000+. Are you kidding me? Thing has a bar in the back!

What argument? And who said anything about being "pompous"? First, it's no surprise that RR has always been a symbol of status/elitism. That was never for debate! Second, sorry to inform you but you are not educating anyone here by worshiping what little you know. Third, continue to hype up this car as much as you want to in your mind, but demonstrating one's own foolish assumptions doesn't justify or support this discussion, or argument (if that's what you want to call it). I work in San Francisco. Everything from Bentley's, to Rolls, to Lambo's, to you name it, even Bugatti Veyron's, are almost common place in these parts. Of that group, Rolls are the least impressive & the one that gets the most shock when I tell others, who can't tell it apart from anything else, about how much it cost & why. And yes, I happen to like older cars too such as RR's, Jag's, & Duesenberg's. However, aesthetically speaking, what sets the current Rolls from a newer Benz? Nothing! My point, which if you haven't all ready figured out, is being too conservative! I don't see anything "pompous" about a Rolls other than the rare knowledge I have, that many others don't, about it's "gawk" factor.

they are some of the WORST looking wing mirrors ever attached to a car... it doesnt help that they stuck em on the doors either! and this is meant to be a rolls? hmm seems to be the BMW trend these days, design ugly cars, filling market segments no one knew existed just for the hell of it, cause they know because of the badge, or in this case the woman, (although not present in these photos but u get my point), on the bonnet they'll all sell! this is a tad disappointing in my lowly opinion!

In fact, IMO, the RR needn't get a test mule for their Ghost, because the production one is nearly the same look as the concept one, it's not a secret

The only people who buy White Royces are people looking to get into the wedding car game. It's a bad colour choice unless you cover it in ribbons and tie cans to the back.

why did they put on the sidemirrors from an SUV? Its so sad that RR is being pushed in this direction. RR used to be elegant and beutiful to look at. This just looks plastic and cheap. And yeah. Whats with the grill?? Shame to put a RR badge on this..
