The trouble that an automaker with a distinctive yet conservative design heritage such as Volvo always has, in terms of stylistic challenges, are the two burning questions: Where to go next and how far to take a new design for a facelift or next-generation iteration of a model.

Here are a couple of spy shots of the facelifted Volvo C70 coupe/convertible taken in Barcelona, Spain by an intrepid Volvo4life.es forum poster and you can judge for yourself whether Volvo is on track here. Design cues from the recent S60 Concept are clearly evident. And one can argue that Volvo has given this coupe/convertible a little extra character, with more rounded lines around the new face and a more gaping mouth (wider grille), while still maintaining a design consistency.

That altered face also comes by way of a new bumper and headlights which have a more pronounced look over the current generation. And at the back, are a new set of taillights, new rear bumper and a larger font Volvo name spelled out on the trunk door. A series of changes enough for, if not worthy of, a new facelift release.

The new facelifted Volvo C70 coupe/convertible will likely make its debut at the Frankfurt motor show in September. It is slated for launch sometime in 2010.

looks far better, the current model is just to plain due to s40 front.

Distinctive evolution ... the designers have managed to retain the same high class appearance but still give it a fresh look ... well done Volvo.

Either I'm drunk and think that a Volvo is good looking for once, or it really has got better aesthetically!

I thought it looked good, until you realise the front looks like a Chevy Impala, particularly in that red, and that's definitely not a good thing.

looks alright, i still think it looks akward though, IMO only 2 seaters (and the Infiniti) look good w/ the hardtop.

If it was made by Volkswagen they'd say it's a completely new model.

I like the front better. The back reminds me of an Oldsmobile Intrigue, not necessarily a positive association. While I've owned and enjoyed Volvos in the past, this one looks pretty portly. With FWD and no sunroof, I think I prefer the Eos, which will probably get a facelift too before too long.

good job, volvo... looks better, fresher and sexier... but still looks like a volvo. looks well proportionate too, while the current generation seems to have a bit of a short chin... maybe it's just me, but the c70 looks too big from the back for such a short c30 front end, doesnt it?

looks like a cross between a modern buick and a '90 Taurus in front, what is with the wimpy jellybean shape.

Nice - - a more aggressive front end that puts it head and shoulders above BMW's 4-seater. very sweet

the head lights shouldn't be that big because the bumper is small and even for the tail light it should be thinner,if you look at the whole cars you will notice that it's small so that why it's doesn't fit well. and it's not classy as 2009 model ......
