Mercedes-Benz is rumoured to be bringing to market a very interesting vehicle. In 2008 at the Paris Motor Show a concept called the Mercedes-Benz Concept Fascination was unveiled. Most believed it to be a mere concept of what an E-Class Coupe could look like for example, something of a preview. It turns out there were deeper plans for it than that.

Should this three-door estate really make it out of the concept phase it would become part of a growing lineup of cars based on the new E-Class. These are the sedan itself, the coupe, the convertible and the five-door estate.

Premium car manufacturers are inventing new segments on what seems to be a yearly basis. Mercedes-Benz itself was first to market a four-door coupe with the CLS. They would therefore plan and hope for similar levels of success with a three-door estate or shooting brake.

If the same engines found in the E-Class are to be used then we'll see four-cylinder petrols and diesels as well as V6s and V8s being included. An AMG variant? With rumours saying the E-Class Coupe might not offer this powerful option, this model may also end up not receiving AMG treatment.

The Frankfurt Motor Show is expected to showcase the E-Class Estate while the Convertible would soon follow.

So merc are trying to pull off creating a hybrid between an estate car and a coupe. Meh, it MIGHT work.

dead in the water if you ask me. the spectre of the r-class looms heavily over this model, even if it does have more sporting pretensions

This car has no relation to the R-Class whatsoever. The R-Class is built on a completely different chassis and is probably 50% longer and heavier than this. And the R-Class is butt ugly. This car looks good!

I believe he meant that, like the R-class, this car is destined to fail. They aren't related mechanically at all. But they are both ultra-niche cars which nobody needs, but which Mercedes will (try to) convince them they want.

There are two different word origins, one being english (brake) and the other French (break). Both usages are correct.

Ha, I thought that was the BMW X6. Ah well, at least that thing is a performance benchmark in its class, if at the cost of being completely impractical and extravagant.

This really does look good!

Why the E class doesn't come with a stetchted leather consol as this?

It only needs a rear door like the one on Mazda RX8. Still it's beautiful!!!

When this concept debuted last year, I immediately found that it was so hard to resist.

Even with the introduction of E class Sedan and Coupe, I still believe that this shooking brake is the most elegant and beautiful in E series.

I would sell my left nut for one if they manage to engineer the production model to be pillarless like this concept. Ah, I love shooting brake designs. @ Zeitgeist MD, I agree -- this is a superbly elegant car.

It looks beautiful... Kind of like a more grown-up version of a Brera I'd take this over the Panamera and buy a roadster with the change left over.

Why? has noone mentioned about the rare end of this E-class. It looks SIMILAR to the new MAZDA6 wagon! especially the lights.

German going Jap?..lol cool. but overall looks really nice, especially the front end! very agressive with originality.
