Probably something like that.

"Kessler told the firefighters that while it is worth around US$2 million, it is insured for US$3 million." Well, this is perhaps a better outcome financially (just suppose the owner has little emotion to the car): $3 million is better than any resale price less than $3 million. More things become possible when the economy remains less optimistic.

Thank god for insurance sometimes.

Perhaps something took up residence in the exhaust over the winter. Oops.

So sad Ive seen one in my life a Brown one in Florida ugly color but looked amazing the funny thing was I was ten years old n could not stop screaming for my mom to turn around so I could look at it :). Sad to see one of seven in the states go to waste :(.

When it comes to some cars, there's no such thing as an ugly color, The F1, the Enzo, the CGT, etc...they could be puke green and i'ld still like the color on the car. That brown must have been a sexy metallic one.

agreed Xanavi on that one. Even yellow CGT looks absolutely awesome. But then imagine pink one :(((

It was just a normal brown color, if I owned it I would just send it over to McLaren to repaint it. N I do agree a Carrera GT n Enzo look good in any color but the F1 either the Silver Black or that Orange it came inn :).

Well Kimbo, the CGT can get away with Pink because of the Pink Blaupunkt 956 Porsche won with(or finished high with) in the mid 80s with ;). Not saying i would buy it pink...but they have some right to it lol.

N the value of the car is between 1.2 to 1.4 million at least thats what the most recent one was going for.

Sad to see as there are so few and they are so significant. I hope it can be economically restored.

Still the second greatest supercar, following the Veyron? Shame to see one go...
June 3, 2009 2:04 pm

No, the Veyron is the fastest, but it will never steal the title of THE greatest supercar from the McLaren F1. Sad news... I wonder how many of them still exist

THE greatest supercar ever = Dauer 962 Le Mans. http://www.supercars.net/cars/404.html

I'm afraid I have to disagree. The thing is, the Dauer was a street-legal racecar, it was never designed to be a daily driver. If someone makes a street-legal Formula 1, will you say it's now better than the Dauer? There's no need to post a link to some website where somebody came up with the idea of saying the Dauer is the greatest supercar in the world, I'd rather use books and major car magazines as a source.

that's your opinion. it's like saying the Maserati MC12 and the Porsche GT3 are not good cars because they are homologation specials. have you ever driven a Dauer 962 ? it has more creature comfort than a McLaren F1 and it's perfectly usable in the real world , it's faster and it handles better than the F1, i say it's a better car.

Loyo, you realise you're wrong right ? The SSC Ultimate Aero is the fastest car in the world at 247mp/h.

It's not just MY opinion, I didn't make it up or anything, it's the website you mention the one that says the Dauer is THE best car in the world, that's THEIR opinion, and I doubt most car experts agree with them. I never said the Dauer wasn't a great car, but it's pointless to compare it to the McLaren F1. Xanavi: I know the SCC is faster, but they were talking about the McLaren and the Veyron first, my bad.

Whats the use of keeping such a car moth balled 4 six months???? Atleast he could have driven it once in a fortnight....

lol. Now that would be a disaster. I can imagine Rowan Atkinson going Ferrari baiting in it like he did with those Reliants. But on a serious note, I think I'm about to cry. Poor McLaren :'(

That sucks soo bad. The worst part is the owner had to watch his beloved toy burn to the ground before his own 2 eyes.

It's just a scratch, will buff out. If it doesn't, I think a Tata Nano will soothe the pain.

Can anyone say, Ebay part-out? Actually, this happened not too far from where I live. If I were the owner of a muti-million dollar F-1, I'd be much better prepared to deal with a fire than this guy -- who I assume is the person in the black shirt talking on his cellphone; looks like he's too afraid of getting his hands dirty to me.

Actually I know for a fact it was driven, regardless of what is stated in the article. I have seen that car on I5 before, covered in bugs on the front.
