Jaguar e-mailed us this new, promotional video of an interview with Jag design chief Ian Callum about the new 2010 Jaguar XJ. Planned for a London debut on 9 July 2009, the completely redesigned luxury saloon will be introduced with many new features.
In the minute-long video, seen above, Callum discusses how his entire 30-year career played a part in the development of the car. He goes on to say that his design team and the engineering team constantly pushed the envelope to truly live up to people's high expectations.
"The lines are beautiful, but we've reinterpreted it in quite a different way that is actually right and correct for the 21st century," Callum said. "A Jaguar should be very beautiful, very clear in its intent, but relevant for its time."
Aside from another teasing overhead shot, the video also shows a blurred-out car, in motion, from both sideways and a 45-degree angle. A panoramic roof is expected to be used, along with an aluminum body. Standard, and long wheelbase versions should be available.
Under the hood, customers will likely get the choice between a new, 5.0-liter supercharged V8 producing 510 hp and a maximum 625 Nm of torque, and a 271 hp 3.0-liter twin-turbo V6 diesel. The second engine gives off 271 hp and 600 Nm of torque. A naturally aspirated version of the 5.0-liter V8 is also expected.
Orders for the car will begin around the time of the unveiling, while deliveries will begin in early 2010. In the meantime, Jaguar plans on releasing more vignettes like the video above to hype the car.
Callum is enthusiastic about his creation, saying, "I think we've achieved something very special indeed." We'll find out for sure this summer.

the XF is a brilliant car. i dunno if you've ever sat in one, but it's beautifully crafted inside and out, and it has engines that beat the Germans at their own game. it handles as well if not better than a 5-Series, but it's not an imitator. it creates its own style, rather than trying to copy something else. i think it's exactly what Jag needed to move forwards.
to be honest, looking at the pictures of the XJ i have a feeling it might not be to my taste, but i'm sure many would disagree. if they are able to follow it up with a decent X-Type replacement, and maybe a competitor to the Audi TT or the A3 (or both) then i think that Jaguar may well become the strongest it's been in a very long time.
