With the summer camping season just around the corner, Volkswagen has unveiled a new limited edition California Black motorhome.

Based off VW's Comfortline trim package, the new California Black Edition features a unique monotone exterior with darkened tail lights, black 18-inch alloy wheels, bi-xenon headlights, and plenty of chrome trim.

The interior also receives a number of special touches including leather and Alcantara upholstery, tri-zone climate control, park distance control with a rear view camera, and GPS navigation. Of course the real coup de grâce is the van's electrically operated pop-up roof.

Powered by a 130 hp (96 kW) TDI engine, the California Black Edition will be priced from 77,736.75 euros in Germany.

77,736.75.... for that money you could possibly buy a camper with the same size maybe bigger and hitch it on the back of a volvo.

These type of cars are only cool when they don't take themselves too seriously. This just doesn't work ( and i love the California btw... it's one of the cars going into my dream garage :P )

Is vw going mad? For this sort of money I expected a 300 hp v6 or a porsche engine in the back!

If I'm not mistaken and forgetting certain options, this is €17,000 more than the top of the range Comfortline California with 2.5 liter diesel 4motion, auto trans. Also, the configurator on the vw.de site options it as high as €84,000. Although I'm comparing "apples to oranges" the Audi TT-RS story we did earlier today was priced at €56,000. Food for thought...

WOW! Youd need to be out of your mind to buy this, buy a nice CAR and stay in a nice hotel, there is no need for this.
