September's Frankfurt Motor Show is shaping up to be an Audi extravaganza, thanks to recent reports which indicate the company will unveil four vehicles at the show.

Besides debuting the redesigned A8 and the new A5 Sportback, Audi is expected to show the highly anticipated R8 Spyder and a R8 electric vehicle concept. Like the coupe, the R8 Spyder will be offered with a 4.2-liter V8 with 420 hp or a massive 5.2-liter V10 with 525 hp.

Details on R8 EV are scarce, it remains unclear if the concept will be a pure electric vehicle or a more contemporary gasoline-electric hybrid. While the chances of production are minimal, Audi probably wants to demonstrate they know alterative powertrains aren't always diesels.

YES, an all electric powered R8? I want one. If it goes at least as good as the Tesla, i'll be the first to order.

Were cool if Audi were the first german worldbrand to finally enter the all electic automotive future with a serious awsome looking supercar.

electric cars are the only future and with Audi on the grid it would be a perfect entrance into that new market. Just curious how the sound will be like. surely not as awsome as a patrol R8, but better no sound at all than a funny sounding wannabe hybrid sports engine :).

way to go AUDI! Don't wait!

hey, why don't Audi also first compete LeMans with electric racecars (ERCs)? the way they did before the current R8 to prove their supersports and endurance competence ahead of road series production?

could be a new competition category for a new electric racing trophy.

But then i guess the batteries won't do it yet.

the electric R8 is just a concept , like the diesel R8. hopefully it will never go into production.

i agree with Clarkson, a supercar must be politically incorrect, burn the rain forests, kill the dolphins, burn the ozone, etc. leave the electric bullshit for cars like the Smart.

I really can't see the point of an A5 Sportback, because isn't that basically an A4 estate with a slightly more coupe-ish roofline. The new A8 sounds like it's coming too early though, because its barely got into the testing sessions yet. And as a final question to Audi, weren't you going to unveil the A1 and the A7 at Frankfurt too. Bear that in mind!

Can't wait to see the new A8, but I don't see mention of the A7? Those are the most anticipated future intros. Can't get excited about the A5 Sportback or the R8 electric (although I'll be curious to hear the engineering details).

I think everyone is confused about the A5 Sportback. Its not an estate in any way, ts essentially a mini A7 (a mini CLS if you can imagine that). It is literally an A5 with two extra doores. I have seen a picture of the car (a test vehicle) with the extra two doores etc. It looks fantastic, and the S5 Sportback should be a stunning car.
