Artist Interpretation: Subaru WRX STI

Our friends over at Jalopnik are showing off the work of one of their audience members. Lars Mårtensson, a.k.a. "GRID", has designed his own 3D rendering of a Subaru WRX STi concept.

Mårtensson's creation looks a bit like a cross between the legendary Subaru and a Triumph TR7 wedge... and that's not a bad thing. If there is one thing the WRX line desperately needs is a more unique look. It's unfortunate that the freshest look for the WRX has to come from fans, and not the automaker.

Mårtensson fresheded up the entire front-end by giving a steeper curve to the headlights. So steep is this, that the larger air intake, headlights, and narrow honeycomb grille combine to form a nose-and-mouth smiley face. We do like the modern styling to the lower section of the bumper, with a bigger grille and fog lights built in. But with such a steep angle from the front end to just in front of the driver's head, we wonder how comfortable this car would be to drive. However, the completely redesigned rear-section, with center-mount exhaust and contrasting color tones, is a nice touch.

If only Subaru would go ahead with this. Unfortunately, this car looks good, so they probably won't :P

i like it but the lines are too 1980's. they should look into Scirocco look; Low profile, hatch, wide stance and more modern lines.

Nice rendering, but it doesn't look like a rally car as it should. It's a bit too "coupe-ish". Plus, I think it resembles the Scirocco in the front a bit. Not a bad thing, just not original.

No doubt about the guy has skills, but it has nothing in common with Subarus except for the blue paint and golden rims!

It's a cool idea, but it is was on sale against the Scirocco R and Megane RS, it would look very dated.

I work at a Subaru Dealership, have seen a lot of nice Impreza's ... that is crap!! Check the calender it's 2009 ... get with it! I hope that dude didn't get paid to draw that!!

Oh dear...it is gone from bad to outrageously disastrous! It looks like a C30 cross C4 coupe mixed in a little Scirocco and you get Scooby on bad steroids!

Hey here is a intresting fact...what does Lars Mårtensson from Jalopnik and Subaru have in common?

why does it have to have a smily front headlights. i think those smily head lights doesn't go well with the whole body design but all else looked good.

He has mixed a few cars i can clearly see, i don't if you guys are familier, the rear lights are direct from a Toyota Cladina, slight touch of Suzuki for the front lights mixed with Citroen. It's a Funny looking car, but Subaru culd refine it, and i think it is a good Effort. Well done. Current Subaru, I am big subby fan but i think this one is a little heavy, they should make Both Sedans and Hatches and enter each in rally as 1 and 2 car. That be COOL.
