With the Tokyo Motor Show less than six months away, new details have emerged about the production version of the Lexus LF-A.

According to a recent report from AutoExpress, the car will boast a 4.8-liter V10 engine with over 550 bhp which will enable it to hit a top speed of 218 mph. This means the upcoming supercar will offer similar performance figures to much more prestigious exotics such as the Ferrari 599 GTB and Lamborghini's Murcielago LP640.

Unlike the prototype LF-As which competed unsuccessfully at the 24 hours of Nürburgring (one finished 87th overall while the other caught on fire), the production version will feature revised styling with noticeable changes to the front bumper, headlights, and grille.

Expected to cost somewhere between £140,000 ($194,000 USD) and £190,000 ($263,000 USD), the LF-A and it's rumored high performance variant could be limited to 500 units.

"high performance variant" - Super Light/Fast LF-A like F430 Scuderia to F430

Hmm, I would like to be true, but it says pretty clear that "the LF-A AND it's rumored high performance variant could be limited to 500 units." So both cars may be limited, I still hope they won't, this can become my dream car.

This is the weird thing, this car has about 90 hp less than the ferrari 599 GTB, but it can go a lot faster. WHy limited it to 500 cars??

So why it was so unsuccessful in 24-hour Nürburgring Race this and also last year, still reliability problems? Then what about lap times - were they at least comparable to R8 and other top-runners?

The LF-A prototype did a lap in 7 minutes 13 seconds. For comparison, the Nissan GT-R took 7 minutes 26.7 seconds and the Corvette ZR1 accomplished it in 7 minutes and 26 seconds.

Because in racing, the fastest car on track...isn't always the fastest car on track.
