Nice. What is it?
Well, it's a Lotus Exige S, of course. Which is pretty much an Elise with a removable roof and a little extra tuning of that Toyota-supplied engine under the hood.
It's fun to watch this little number racing around Monterrey, Mexico and be reminded that Lotus builds real sports cars, and not just light-weight little roadsters with rear-mounted engines that make hay on their minimal dimensions.
The Exige S comes with a supercharged 1.8 liter DOHC engine with variable-valve timing supplied by Toyota. Depending on which model this is, it produces either 220 or 240 or 260 hp (the video does not specify). The 2009 Exige S is offered in North America in two configurations, S240 and S260. Oh, and there are the Exige GT3 and 265E models too. The latter running on E85 ethanol fuel and each coming with 275 and 265 hp, respectively.
Despite all of the different Elise/Exige varieties, apparently the owner who remains anonymous wanted something a little more. Besides the custom body kit with rear diffuser and huge wing, the car dubbed, Exige Scuderia, also features a KOMO-TEC S300 Phase 3 intercooler upgrade kit which bumps power up to 300hp from the standard 220hp.
Surely, for some purist, tampering with the Exige is sacrilege. But for others - it's never enough.
