2011 VW Touran MPV First Spy Photos

The next Volkswagen Touran has been spied testing on the streets with a trailer in tow. Though the mule uses the current Touran facelift for its body, underneath there lies the next-generation model. The Touran will take on the brand's new face which can already be seen on the Scirocco, the Golf VI and the new Polo. VW's versatile vehicle has been in the market since 2003 and it received a facelift in 2007.

Speculation is that because the current car, which is based on the expensive to build Golf V platform, VW is moving the next one's release date up in order to take advantage of the cheaper Golf VI platform.

Engines expected include the 1.4-litre TSI and the 1.6-litre. Turbo diesels are also popular in this segment so the 1.9 TDI as well as the 2.0 TDI will form the lineup. Mated to these engines are two gearboxes, the familiar 6-speed manual and the new 7-speed DSG.

Gadgets on the menu would be things like the self-park function, touch screen satellite navigation and lane assist.

It would not be a surprise to see the Touran at the Frankfurt Motor Show this September.

WCF is wrong. This isn't a completely new Touran! In fact it is the 2nd Facelift including whole new front design with the new look, new interiour. It is still the same chassie, but a slighty refreshed look and feel.

it could be test mule body work. however you may be right since they did the same to the golf plus.

FP23, it's completely plausible that it's a second facelift. However, the trailer testing indicates powertrain stress and cooling testing is happening. As a result we have three possibilities - new engine only or new platform or both. Based on VW's eagerness to move to the MKVI platform and the product life cycle coming to an end, we vote for next gen mule. What makes you say it's 2nd facelift?

WCF is also wrong when they say that the Touran will use the 1.9l Tdi. It will use the new 1.6l Tdi. And i wouldn't bet on the 1.6L petrol either.

I respectfully disagree, in Europe we don't get re branded American vehicles. VW has higher standards that than. we all know European buyers have much greater expectations compared to American buyers, which is why many American cars are so derided in Europe. American manufacturers also tend to resort to Korean/far eastern pricing strategies of under cutting their European rivals in the European market because of that. I know it may be a re branded chrysler in America, but the touran is based on the golf in Europe

Benzian, you're thinking of the Routan which is a Chrysler Town & Country. Chrysler licensed it to VW in the U.S. Touran or any other VW van has nothing to do with Chrysler. http://www.worldcarfans.com/9080206.024/volkswagen-routan-unveiled-at-chicago-auto-show

I worked for VW a few years back, and I can tell you that you have no idea what you are talking about in regards to europeans demanding higher standard. when a VW car is finished at a mfr plant, it is ranked into three possible quality levels (forgot the names), basically best, middle, and worst. For your information, the US and Japan (only) get the best vehicles. They are deemed to be the pickiest markets. Europe and a few others get the middle quality cars. Then Latin America and other developing countries get the crap. At least that is how it was when Ferdinand Pi?ch was in charge (who mfr people feared due to his ability to spot inperfections).

you tell 'em BENZian and Hoyas1. You guys speak facts, not bias opinions. I agree that this bankruptcy has awakened and fortified a "sleeping giant" :GM. The American Auto industry's resurgance will be seen in the new products,we can see that already at GM and Ford, and that will shut them all up! I also believe Chrylser is set for a come-back. The new 200c is a solid entry that is stunning! ( compare that to the ugly beak on the Acura TL! YUCK!)Good work!

For those ones saying the Routan is not based on the Town and Contry... with all respect, but are you blind??? There are articles in WCF and tons out in the internet showing that they VW and Chrysler are sharing platforms for the minivan. Just compare the two vehicles inside and out and you will notice SEVERAL indications that they're pretty much the same!! com'on!! And is not VW first attempt of doing something like this. Just look the plans they have for their next pick-up, based on the TOYOTA HILUX!!!! OPEN YOUR EYES! In this global based economy, car companies are looking for better ways to get better products out to the public and save money on production, if this makes sense.

BENZian...Thank you. It's about time another American speaks up. It seems that every one is ready to bash American cars but forget that our road system is not suited to the majority of European cars. Tiny little cars don't work here. Diesels are great but because diesel is taxed so much here (for commercial trucks) they don't sell well. If all of the European brands were doing so well why aren't they still operating in the largest market? What happened to Renault, Fiat, Alfa, MG, Rover, etc... Fiat is doing so well now because they forced GM to pay 2 billion or they would have to have baught Fiat. Remember that VW nearly blew it in the States because of the Rabbit and Audi alsmost pulled out because of the 5000. American companies might have produced gas guzzlers but they were selling. Oh, Porsche's best selling model...the Cayenne a large gas guzzling SUV (thanks America for making the near VW takeover possible).

maybe YOU should open YOUR eyes... this is the TouRan, not the RouTan. Completely different cars. And VW did have a Toyota based pick up.. in the 90s. The Taro. Huge flop. The new one is a in-house development.

FP23 I agree with you, do you think this "new" Touran will be better than the current one?

i think that the vw touran should be sold in the U.S. because vw always make good cars and it would do very well in the U.S. also, because since it was in toyko drift, sales would rapidly increase.
