That looks good, I was starting to think VW had forgotten how to make sports cars after the MK6 Golf GTI.
This is a beast, wonder what the price tag is.
Hoping now they will come clean with the Gold MK 6 R20

It looks mean.
But it's unnecessary to add LED. Now every new car seems to have LED daily running light. I deplore the lack of ingenuity in auto industry.

What? I think the LED's on the Audi's make those cars look HAWT! Way better than any other manufacturer has achieved - even BMW (although those angel eyes still look good almost - what - a decade after launch). I hope they carry these over to the MK6 GTI too... I've heard they will.

"its unnecessary to add LED"? its not all about necessity. its also about looks. and its looks dam beautiful!

I like the LEDs myself. I'm trying to figure out how to add them to my Lexus... OK, kidding with that but I do like them.

lokks good.
anyway the the rims remind me a little bit too muchof the ones on the rs6 :(

Looks nice, but 265bhp is only just competitive these days for a super hot hatch derivative.

when you look at the TT-S and S3, whilst they have different engine mappings, and transmission setups, it is pretty impressive the difference AWD makes. Really surprised they didn't go for awd with this!

Puuurrrrfect compromise for the new economic/green environment ... enough power without punishing the environment ... great looking body kit, wheels, LEDs, making it a real eye catcher in "R" blue ... combined with usual VW high quality interior will make this another much sought after model.
May 20, 2009 8:09 am
All this high quality stuff makes me a laugh a little. I bought my MK5 GTI in '06 and it's ALWAYS rattled. Ever since the day I bought it. And the rattles move. One day it'll rattle here, the next there. Frankly, it's the sorest point about the car. It sucks. But otherwise, everything else is great.

Being a top-spec version, I hope it will be fully equipped which means the price gap between the R and a fully loaded 2.0 TSI won't be too high.
Then I might sign a check on it next year :-D

265 hp for a super hot hatch .....hmmmm I am curious hom much faster the ford RS is than this I would throw in the R26R in there too...and we all wait for the new RS results on hot hatch reviews....cant wait to see a possible new 26R.
May 20, 2009 8:13 am
Rs is 300 HP and I think makes 0-100 in just over 6 secs. Different cars, that has a boot and this doesn't really: the Scirroco only is good for shopping trips and little more.

Daytime running lights are obligatory here in Germany. Some use conventional systems for cost reasons (e.g. new E-class Mercedes w/o ILS), others use LEDs which are not only popular but offer better lighting and to a certain extent better power consumtion.

two of the major benefits also are maintenance and thermal management.
led's have operational lives hundreds (or even thousands depending on the application) of times longer than incandescent bulbs. not to mention are able to survive impacts/knocks much better.
they also emit significantly less heat than incandescent bulbs of similar luminosity.

Hi everybody,
For those wondering about the price, according to the German media, it will be around 34,000 ?.
May 20, 2009 8:36 am
This is the beauty and the beast in one.Only would love to see AWD and the car will be finished.
May 20, 2009 8:50 am
265hp and 6,5sec to 100??
i think this is a bit slow for that much horsepower.
would be very interesting how this thnig handles despite the front wheel drive.
May 20, 2009 9:16 am
AWD would increase the price seriously and because of the extra weight, it will degrade the experience of power while driving. Indeed 0-100 would improve since more traction, but that is not the ultimate power experience indicator. The power to weight is much more relevant and here it will be brilliant (seen the affordable sticker).

Two words. Future classic. Shame about the FWD though. Electronic front differentials built to a cost never really work.
May 20, 2009 11:23 am
6.5s + FWD? I was expecting an R32 type Scirocco, 0-60 in 5.9 + 4WD.
May 20, 2009 12:09 pm
0-60mph could be less than 6.5s, especially you need 3rd gear to reach 100km/h and only 2nd to reach 60mph.
Also it might be a conservative 0-100km/h since the 2.0TSI DSG has been measured between 6.2s and 7s by car magazines.
May 20, 2009 12:17 pm
This has got to be one of the best looking cars out there today. I want one. VW, please rethink your decision not to bring this car to Canada.
May 20, 2009 1:54 pm
Crikey. I eat my words. This is the first VW I've seen in a year - since all the new designs have been rolling out (Polo, Golf, Scirroco) that actually kicks ass in the looks department. And the blue is a thumbs up, won't be available on tht GTI so something special. Always liked it best, after the RS4.
