Inching closer to production

A sharp-eyed observer managed to catch this virtually undisguised 2010 Rolls-Royce Ghost at the Calais - Dover ferry crossing in England.

Looking nearly identical to 200EX Concept, this production ready prototype shows us what to expect when the Ghost is officially unveiled at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September. Differences between the concept and production version seem to include colored turn signal indicators, a revised front bumper with a center support, and a slightly modified steering wheel.

Although it is based on the recently introduced BMW 760Li, the new Rolls-Royce Ghost is a tad larger as it measures a massive 5399mm (212.6 inches) in length, 3295mm (129.7 inches) in wheelbase, 1948mm (76.7 inches) in width, and 1550mm (61 inches) in height. Power will come from a 6.6-liter twin-turbo V12 engine that produces 400 kW (544 hp) and 750 Nm (553 lb-ft) of torque.

Look for 2010 Rolls-Royce Ghost to start arriving in dealerships early next year with a base price somewhere in the neighborhood of £180,000 (US$257,000).

I couldn't put my finger on it but now seeing your comment I've remembered... yes, you're right: Rover 75 and Hyundai XG... still, I love this car as I love any current RR (most likely because I'll never be able to own one or two or more :)))

Fat tyres at the rear & slight changes from the exterior & it will look like a phantom IV....... oppsss I mean Ghost.

Undisguised, yes...

but looks unfinished too! No traditional chrome RR grill...

In current form it looks awful!

he, he, before reading your comment I was thinking: it will be almost two years (more or less) before we will see on the market a car called Geely Ghost, which will surely "not" be a copy of this RR.

Looks fantastic IMO, especially with this specific color!

They truly succeed in making it different from the 7-series, whereas the Bentley Flying Spur looks like a Phaeton (especially between A- to C-pillar) with Bentley front & rear end.

Oh no this look awful. the rear end looks like a Rover, the front looks like it's been punched several times. I know it's unfinished and all, but oh dear.

...then again it might just be the colour. I think I'll reserve my final judgement with the finished product

change the colour, have the grill and front detailing in bare metal (polished or brushed) and it will look great.

im slightly concerned about the chrome ring around the rear lights. thats just not right!

If there is a grill on the double R that isn't chrome metal, there is gonna be £££ knocked off the value. I hope this ain't finished. Doesn't look good enough to be called a Rolls Royce.

Rolls Royce used to stand for something, used to be elegant, bathed in chrome. This one will just get lost in a sea of 300Cs and 7series...and for a quarter mil!

It doesn't look any better than OK to me. Has this the same engine as the new 760i, but just 0.6L bigger with no more power? Maybe it looks better if they made the rearlights a bit bigger and those Escalade or truck sized mirrors a bit smaller

And the problem would then make it look like a dated Jaguar. Well, it already does now.

yes engine has enlarged displacement and there will be no additional power, instead of it will have a lot more torque :)

Of course the grille will be chrome... This looks like a preproduction model, so expect different wheels as well (the units fitted are standard BMW testcar ones).

I think the finished product will look like a million bucks. Bentley beware.
