With the current Saab 9-5 being an automotive afterthought, the company needs the redesigned 2010 model to be a huge success with consumers and critics alike. Thankfully spy photographers have managed to give us a glimmer of hope as they've snapped the first images of the car's undisguised interior and rear end.

While we can't gather a complete picture of the new 9-5's overall design, the pictures show us a shapely rear end with taillights inspired by the 9-4X BioPower Concept which debuted at the 2008 North American International Auto Show in Detroit. Another picture provides a partial glimpse of the car's rear greenhouse which boasts a dynamic sweeping appearance but thanks to an unfortunately parked Opel, details are limited.

The interior also echoes the 9-4X Concept as it features Saab's trademark "7" dashboard, complex air vents, and a button intensive center stack. Judging by the looks of this prototype, the cabin seems rather somber so hopefully that will change by the time the 9-5 heads into production.

Riding on the new Epsilon II platform, the 2010 9-5 will feature a variety of engines including a host of updated four-cylinder gas and petrol units as well as a new 2.8-liter turbocharged V6 with 300 horsepower.

Look for the new 9-5 to be officially unveiled at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September with sales beginning early next year.

I actually like what I see... The interior is looking decent from the pictures and so is the rear end. Hopefully Saab will survive this harsh times and the new 9-5 will be a successeful model /unlike the current one/.

But wait, that's Opel Insignia. Even the interior reminds me Insignia. Damn GM and its unification. Hate it.

I fear this car won't be all people expect and that it needs to be.

What's with the 80's AC vents? Other than that I like the interior... just wonder if Saab will be around to release it!

The AC vents are trademark for Saab. I don't like them either but we've got to deal with that. And about the Chevy wheel - don't forget this is a mule.

Hope this car succeeds. I think SAAB deserves to stay, despite its mismangagement in the last 20 years.

at least they have redone the interior but design wise, the lines are too flat and the materials look so plastic-y...well and that car looks like a floated pregnant car,i know it is a new but damn

The rear end looks pretty nice but i think the interior is too Audi style. Earlier every Saab had a clear interior design but it looks so different. Too dark everything and too much buttons. But the exterior is amazing. And the previous spy shots showed the front end looks also great!

you sure that rear end wasn't an old Chevy Malibu Maxx?

picture the 2010 Buick LaCrosse with saabs lights and 9-4x grill and i think your there.interior will be shared also, but with saabs own touch, engines and trans also shared with the buick....could be not to bad this new 9-5.

I wish these could look like Saab's by Saab instead of Saab courtesy of GM. I really miss that truly unique sense of Scandinavian design inspiration, materials and finishes.

In my comment before I wrote that if the new 95 will be made on GM design and product development philosophy that car will be a failure. Now we can admit that it is not failure, it is a disaster, and not a mule like was hoped in comment above.

Why bother building a new car, close the factory and take care of all the thousands working there.. The world doesnt need a new Saab.
